SCO Linux case (mostly) thrown out

A key legal case in the claim by US firm SCO to own key parts of Linux has been largely dismissed.

On Wednesday a Michigan county court judge threw out almost every claim SCO had made against car maker DaimlerChrysler.

SCO launched the lawsuit alleging that DaimlerChrysler had violated agreements to use the Unix operating system over which the software firm claims ownership.

But in a hearing that took barely 20 minutes, the judge said the only charge DaimlerChrysler had to prove was why it took them so long to tell SCO that they had complied with licence agreements.

Good first step.

I don't think this directly affects the SCO/IBM or SCO/Red Hat cases, but it is good news and does start to feel like maybe the beginning of the end.

I can see a good chance that Linux and OSS will emerge from all of this stronger and on a nice firm legal footing.

Bunch of losers, and I mean that in the most sincere way. A company that has a product line that fails, then hands it's future to the IP lawyers in the hope that they may be able to pull a licensing bonanza out of the mess deserves nothing.

These guys bought something that was worth nothing, and hoped to claim that it was worth a lot if the lawyers could befuddle a judge and jury.

Reminds me of RAMBUS.

I have no argument with the developer of something making a reasonable return. This type of skulduggery just smacks of the ethics of a shootout between gangsters. May the baddest, most unethical bully win.

My anger for SCO holds no bounds.

And i never really hated micro$oft untill the moment when SCO announced the "crimes" of linux, and Mirco$oft gave something like $5 million (by buying shares) to SCO to help them sue everything in sight.

Not cos they win just so that any company thinking in changing to linux is put off whilst this &%*$ goes on.

Anger Raging! Fury untempered!

But hey all publicity is good publicity. I hope.
