What has been forgotten in this latest election cycle is that after many years of increased internet traffic, wild conspiracies and excitement about a society in which nuclear weapons are made and sold by private businesses, Ron Paul's long congressional career is coming to an end shortly, with Randy Weber taking his place on January 3rd.

I, for one, am not volunteering to clear up all that mess left behind from Paul on the world wide web. I'll clean up the return to gold standard arguments that got stuck behind the side of the fridge but that is as far as I'll go.

His son Rand...U.S. Senator from Kentucky...is being groomed to take Daddy's place, but he seems to totally lack the personal appeall (for lack of a better word) that Made Ron Paul a prominent figure.

I so do love watching CSpan's coverage and its associated voice activated translations for the transcripts. It was pretty painful listening to Paul and seeing what came out on the text. My favorite?

Worse than that, he alienated the Ronulans when he came out in support of Romney before Ron got to pull his convention "surprise". Obviously, Rand deals too much in reality to appeal to his dad's fans.

I believe Rand is looking out for his political career and wants to go farther than "that one nut from Texas". He'll probably try to hold on to his the ronulans though, they'll forget about it by the next election.

Probably true, although they may not so much forget as shrug it off with, "He's as close as we're gonna get."

I'm was thinking more like rationalization (he only did it to beat Obama) but with Romney losing...

I don't know about that; it seems to me that most of the ronulans I've encountered would not have considered a non-Paul Republican win any more acceptable than an Obama win.

I don't think they would have liked it, but they may have rationalized it down the road as a way to support Rand while handwaving his support of Romney. I guess I was imagining it like this (assuming a Romney victory): "obama was clearly the worst choice so rand took one for the team to get behind the republican nominee, but he obviously disagrees with him." I've found ronulans to be very good at rationalization, just my two cents.

All of that even assumes that Rand can carry his father's fanboys. (Autocorrect wants to make fanboys into rabbits, I find that funny)

That's true among his Truther supporters, certainly, but remember the Pauls have a real political machine behind them and they are quite aware that they need a host organism in order to survive. The GOP provides that host organism, and they're not going to do anything to seriously damage that relationship.

Ron Paul's Farewell Speech to Congress

Certainly a character. With all his flaws preferable over the bought-and-paid-for streamlined morons without spine that usually populate the place.

I honestly thought this was worthy of at least a token guffaw.... :(
