So, after a bit of recounting, we learn that Romney fell behind Santorum by 30-ish votes instead of winning by 8.
So, not a big deal, you'd think. A close race, victory by a marginal percentage either way.

However, CNN and other media types pursued Romney through three different campaign stops for a statement, and were blown off each time.

This leaves Romney looking either:

1. Flustered by the turn of events, and unable to wing an appropriate statement.

2. His handlers ditto, and Romney afraid to say anything "off-message".

Neither looks very presidential...

"Well, it was a very close race and it fell out the other way. Congrats to Rick and we're still campaigning." How hard would that have been?

I think what's worse about this whole story is that apparently there are a total of eight precincts in Iowa which have simply been "lost" according to the count, and the GOP establishment doesn't seem to express any interest in finding and counting those votes. Politico has a very interesting story on this whole affair.

This whole thing certainly makes the Iowa GOP, and by extension the Republican party in general, look awfully stupid or incompetent about taking voters seriously, given all the hype they had leading up to the Iowa caucuses.

I find it interesting that so many in the GOP are kind of brushing this off; can you just imagine how insane things would be if this were the general election? It'd make 2000 look tame, methinks.

I don't know that the vote count whether Romney was a few votes ahead or Santorum was a few votes ahead makes any real difference. The actual purpose of the caucuses is to elect delegates to the state-wide convention from each district, and I don't think that has been changed by the recalculation or whatever it was. The delegates at the state-wide convention then select delegates to send to the national convention later on.

The Republican race for the nomination is more and more reminding me of the Three Stooges trying to get through a door simultaneously. This is a lot more fun than last time!

It's a non-binding caucus, not an election.

Now that Iowa has been loosed I wonder where it will go?

Hell in a handbasket I guess - they want to pretend to actually be important and get 1st crack at political publicity and they muck it up like this???!!! Can't lay that on the candidates (and I would so fast their heads would spin off if I could) - that's purely an inability to function in the real world - which, I guess, is why the extreme conservatism. They have to pray for the past 'cause they can't handle the present/future.

What I enjoy most about this mess is that it makes the republicons look less organized than the Democrats.
