Rewrite the 10 commandments

I am reminded of Shel Silverstein's piece on "The Twenty Commandments".

The missing 10 were:

11. Thou shalt not compromise.
12. Thou shalt not judge.
13. Thou shalt not seek rewards.
14. Thou shalt not follow leaders.
15. Remember every day, to keep it holy.
16. Honor thy children.
17. Thou shalt not destroy thy body before its time.
18. Mind thine own business.
19. Thou shalt not waste thy time.
20. Thou shalt not lay guilt upon the head of thy neighbor.

I think those are some good additions, at least if there are some asterisks thrown in where appropriate.

I do that with a chain saw, no need for prayer, I prayed to get the chain saw, funny how that works, because it's a rush especially when they jump off their stumps.
I got my Stihl.

God said - if you ask it in my name it will be granted. God didn't say, if you ask it in my name, I will tell you to do it yourself.

Show me just one instance in the history of the world, where a Christian said to a tree "fly into the ocean" and it did.

Your talking about a Game?

That's so incredibly stupid, I can't believe you used that.

I'm talking about a simulation, but generally the same applies to any creation where you get to set the rules in any form. I'd say that not understanding something as elementary is incredibly stupid, but for you it's just about the credible level.

I prayed for my husband to stop hitting me, but I had to get divorced to make it stop. Funny how that works.

You get a chain saw, and I get silence.

Say, while you were praying for that chainsaw, do you suppose there might have been a little girl praying that her relative wouldn't molest her again, but he did, in spite of her prayers? Funny how that works, too.

I never really had to pray for it, it was more or less turning my worry’s over to God.
That tool when I use it also brings me a living and that in today’s world is a blessing.
I try not to bother him with my small problems because of things going on like what you have described.
Prayers for what you describe to end abuse must happen look at how many are caught doing that evil.
We just can’t see all that happens behind the scenes.

Mostly I give thanks because he has to be really busy.
His eye is on everything, nothing is going to get by him even what your husband has done to you; you might not see it now but perhaps later.

Just as I have seen him working in my life you might see it in yours if you turn it over to him.

No one in this world has that kind of faith before or since, that’s why we need Christ, it was rhetoric, an example, and besides it was mountains not trees, as far as I recall.

Edge, these kinds of comments make it unlikely that anyone with a grain of compassion or kindness will take your testimony seriously.

With regard to your comment about prayers to stop child abuse working, how can any ethical human believe that the torture and destructions of any child is acceptable? Why, then, is it acceptable from an omnipotent diety to allow it to occur.

With regard to your comment regarding any partner being abused by their spouse, what good are you expecting it to do? Can I come over to your house, beat you regularly while exhorting you to be a good Christian and determine what good comes of it for you?

Finally, if the god you believe in is omnipotent and omniscient, your concept of busy is incredibly limiting. The Amazon.com web server handles look ups, downloads and purchases worldwide 24-hours a day. God can't handle what a good web server and program can?

You know what, edge. I have already thought that you are making posts like these to yank chains. Now I know it to be true. So here's the question. If I produce an overly emotional response to this post will you stop saying things to get a reaction? We will count it as a win for you. Edge wins thread. Is that acceptable?

Too busy??!! Too busy??!! Too busy??!!.

Did you just say God can't help abused women and children because he is too busy??!! That is the most f'ing stupid ARGUMENT I have ever heard in my entire life. How can an infinite being (who claims to love us, who claims that anything asked in his Name will be granted, who claims that children hold a special place in His heart) be too busy to answer prayers like this one??!!

moving on to other business

I believe I have followed all stated rules. If this post gets deleted, may I be given information about which particular sentence violated which particular rule?

There's also some interesting advice in the Georgia Guidestones. But don't tell the paranoid.

Shel! What a treasure. Hadn't seen these. Thanks for posting them.

1. Love everyone.
2. Be kind to everyone.
3. Respect everyone.
4. Punish fairly and lovingly those who break #1-3.
5. Forgive all offenses after a reasonable amount of time.
6. Be kind to animals and respect the entirety of the natural world.
7. We may eat animals and use up natural resources under the guidance of #6.
8. Worship, or do not worship, whatever gods, forces, spirits or entities you will.
9. Use critical thinking skills and the standards of evidence to make decisions.
10. Music, performance and the arts are equally as important as sports, commerce and business.

:)

Well you know, the universe is really, really big. Consider that our galaxy is about 100,000 light years across. This means that if you saw light from the other side of the galaxy you would be seeing a stream of protons that left those stars 98,000ish years before the founding of the city of Rome. You may stop reading and have a stiff drink at this point. Our galaxy is one of about 30 in a cluster of galaxies called the local group. Please now take a moment to consider the use of the term local in the above sentence. Our local group is one of MILLIONS of CLUSTERS of galaxies in the known universe. Perhaps now would be a good time for another drink. If we consider that it's possible that ours is one of many other universes, contemplating the size and scope of existence causes one to lay down and take a nap.

Now any being running all that is pretty busy (and probably has a very healthy self image so doesn't need me to tell him how great he is). He could be off taking care of the Uncertainty Principal or something when you need him to put a bug in the ear of an abusive husband not to beat his wife. Sure he could do that but then some smart ass grad student and Cal Tech will find out the location and velocity of an electron at the same time and then where will we be? I hope you know because I sure don't.

First off it wasn’t my testimony.

My regard is that I pray as instructed not for B.S.

Now my point is that we have the tools to bring justice, and we have no idea what God does for us secretly in answers to prayer.
Secondly I wouldn’t beat any one, to get them to believe in God.
If I seen some one beating their spouse in front of me…well they would get a big response from me.
The torture and destructions of any child or anybody else is not acceptable.
Just because God hasn’t stepped in physically yet doesn’t mean he never will.
Matter of fact it has been promised and foretold.

It’s not about winning it’s just what I think, how I respect God.
To have all evil end we need to be on the same page, we’re not and probably never will be.

I like the Georgia Guidestone, it’s not about joking.
Never knew about till now, if I go by there I might stop in to see it.

To paraphrase Emo Phillips: When I was a kid I prayed for a bike. When that didn't work, I stole a bike and prayed for forgiveness.
Wow been there done that, I found one once in a cemetery and took it, I figured some one else stole it and dumped it there, I was just fooling myself.
There it was that voice that comes into your head and rationalizes it away.
Never prayed about it but felt bad for a long time, don’t know what happened to it?

Where is "Thou shall not talk on your cell phone in nice restaurants when someone who just got back from a long business trip and is trying to have a romantic dinner with his wife is sitting in the adjacent booth"? These things should be more practical.

I'm trying to whittle this down to 10 and find the exact words. I'm pretty good with the first 9. Is there anything important missing that is not generally covered by one already given?

Don’t harm
Don’t lie
Don’t steal
Don’t disrespect

Keep clean
Keep learning
Keep fit
Help others
Have fun

Work diligently
Be responsible
Meet your obligations
Take responsibility
Make the effort

Do your work
Relax
Play
Admit mistakes
Work hard
Improve yourself

Well you know, the universe is really, really big.

Yes. It is. In fact, the only thing bigger than space is infinity. Surprisingly, infinity is not just a little bigger than the almost unimaginably big universe. It is infinitely bigger than this very, very big universe.

Sure he could do that but then some smart ass grad student and Cal Tech will find out the location and velocity of an electron at the same time and then where will we be? I hope you know because I sure don't.

or worse, we might have a professional football player drop a pass in the end zone and then he wouldn't be able to point at heaven to show that God helped him catch the football.
