Religious Private School Ed-umication.

Actually, in a discussion in one of my sociology classes this semester I was one of only three or four people (out of forty or so) who had sex ed in school. So the catholics did a good job there. We also had evolution in biology classes and learned a little bit about world religions in history. We had required Mass once a week and we said a prayer in Latin at the beginning of Latin class. Religion class was mandatory every year, but it was pretty much a blow-off. There were/are some ancient nuns who teach in the elementary, but the h.s. teachers died out I guess.

I remember back in the 70's when I was a subsitute teacher, I applied to a place called Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy. among the usual questions (age, college, etc.) was a couple that said (to the best of my recollection), Have you been saved? When and where were you saved? I think I wrote that I was Catholic and figured that was enough saving.

I know CVCA! I attended the Jesuit high school across the street. We rode the bus with kids from that school. The Jesuits taught us how to think and how to question. Their teachers taught them rote recitation and blind obediance.
The Jesuit school remains the best educational experiance I've ever had. Most of my college experiance was vomiting back what I had learned in high school. A lot of grad school was repeating conversations I had in high school. Also, The questioning attitude the Jesuits taught was one thing that made me the Agnostic I am now!

I graduated in '83, the year our soccer team won State. Back then we had to import our cheerleaders. :D I walked around campus a few years ago (I was trying to convince my daughter to go, she decided that she liked the school but didn't want to live with grandma nine months out of the year). I was surprised how much has changed.
