To me, this is possibly the worst kind of all, as it disguises itself under a veneer of respectability by quoting statistics.

An example would be black Americans incarceration and violence rates, using the criminal data to come to a conclusion that black Americans are a bad people who will not drag themselves out of the ghetto.

At least the Stormfront-style racist is quite open - he just wants nothing to do with people who are not white and considers them second-class, barely human animals. "Anthropoid" is the pejorative of choice of many, indicating that people of non-white colour are not quite human.

Good targets for intellectual racists include Native Americans, Hispanic and black Americans, New Zealand Maori and Australian Aboriginals.

There is no doubt each of those groups is hugely over-represented in negative criminal, health and social outcomes, yet the intellectual racist will never ask why that should be, merely content with sweeping those groups under the mat as "bad/weak/lazy people".

I believe there are a myriad of reasons why those people have such negative life outcomes, and much of it is the fault of those white racists and their forebears. Having destroyed their cultures through violence and introduced disease, white people left those groups to pick up their own pieces. And they have largely failed.

Germany and Japan were both given massive assistance after WWII which enabled them to recover, but when have we ever invested more than lip service in trying to raise the bar of the people oppressed for centuries in many cases?

Continuing the bigotry by quoting statistics without searching for the reasons behind the problem is part of the problem, not part of the solution.

Do you have a link to anything that you feel represents the type of viewpoint you are discussing? Otherwise just seems like a strawman. Not saying it doesn't exist, but I only generally see the Stormfront type stuff you mention, not this "Psuedo-Intellectual racism" you mention.

In some instances simply throwing assistance at the issue is not working. Back in the 80s and 90s a lot of effort was put into why Aboriginal people were so under represented in higher learning.

One of the things to emerge was the fundamental wiring of the brain, specifically when it came to maths. Aboriginals simply think differently to Europeans. By changing how younger children were taught maths at the elementary stage created greater chances for the children becoming more successful educationally in their teens and beyond.

With health the challenges are twofold. It is known that the genetic makeup of Aboriginals puts them at a far higher risk of alcoholism than their western counterparts. The second issue is many of these people live in remote under serviced regions. So an easily controlled disease in its early stages becomes fatal for these people because it is not caught soon enough.

Yes, Aboriginals are around the top of the list for both past treatment and current health outcomes.

I don't profess to have answers, but I know what isn't helping.

The point about maths is interesting, because there is no reason why we teach all classes of kids algebra, geometry and "higher" maths. We don't use that kind of maths in everyday life and putting it in school curricula is just setting some kids up to fail.

And that is truly the conundrum.......what to do? Most Australians I know are very sympathetic to the situation, and there is more than enough awareness of the situation.

I see and admire multi-cultural mingling every day at the AV Mall. Probably have the full spectrum of humanity, all getting along with each other.
Due mostly I would say to the schools which have no bars to admissions, everyone eligible in essence must go to school, where the classes have all the kids regardless of etnicity, unlike when I went to high school in VA, 1954-1956.
No integration! "Seperate but equal schooling" was the state rule.
In 1962 I saw the result of that. All the eligible males in Caroline County were called up for the Cuban Missile Crisis draft.
There were 6 whites and about 25 blacks bussed to the Richmond VA Induction Center for the examination; physical and mental. 5 of the whites were inducted on the spot.
Not a single black was educated enough to qualify as cannon fodder!

Another thing I hear people use to blame people is "breakdown of family/decline of marriage/absent fathers." Even our Black President does it.

I'm too lazy to go around looking for the exact clip as my source but this reminds me of a clip from O'Reilly's show sometime within the last 3 months...

He cites some crime statistics for black Americans (I think similar to what the second line in the OP is referring to) and suggests this means that blacks are the problem (lazy/violent), instead of systemic racism and cultural makeup for communities in poverty

Here's the difference - Obama also points to discrimination (although he's careful about how he does so, and likely needs to be in order to get elected). Compare him to, say, Charles Barkley or Ben Stein, who have both been caught saying stupid things about black people in front of microphones

On an individual level, of course if your father just refuses to have anything to do with you, that will matter in your life. But in the US, for all races, the percentage of children born to single mothers is on the rise. And at least for black mothers, this is actually because the number of children born by married women has plummeted, and not because the number of children born by single black women has increased. It'd probably be better to discuss that, than to finger-wag, especially since it may be true among all women in the US.

That is precisely the thing!

It's common as hell, unfortunately.

I know in our local University you can get a degree in Aboriginal studies. It's about grade 5 level work.... but they have it.

That is true. You haven't seen drunk until you have seen a drunk Indian.... I'm not sure if that goes for all tribes across North America... or if some or worst then other.

But health and education go hand in hand. Hard for a Native American kid to have a chance in school if he suffers from fetal alcohol syndrome or his mother smoking while pregnant.

Why does it have to be and or?

Are Blacks, Natives or Hispanics allowed to be responsible for any problems within their communities? Or can it only be whitey's fault?

I agree with this. I'm not interested in what a racist web site or association thinks of these data. The problem is that anyone mentioning it (or even especially publishing data on it) is immediately labelled a racist junk scientist.

I have recent data on racial composition and various measures of well-being (using the 50 states as the unit of analysis). The correlations are very large and negative.

To the extent human well-being depends on things like education, smarts, money, health and safety, we should be worried about these effects. Perhaps we should identify their cause and try to fix them? Unfortunately, it seems like the usual, obvious suspects (SES, racism) do little to explain (statistically) the differences.

But, I challenge anyone to find a research area more important to humanity that is simply ignored by science.

I'm guessing, but would have to look it up, that the USA has spent 1 trillion dollars on Head Start since the 1960s. It's gotta be 1 trillion at least if you generalize that to include all money thrown at educational systems in an attempt to reduce race gaps. Those are expensive lips!

There. You are no longer the worst kind of racist.
