Project 2025

That's what is truly baffling me.
The GOP clearly indicated that if they got into power that they intend to strip the US down to the bone by turning it into a mixture of Russian olicarchy and Iranian theocracy with a different religion.
The only one denying this was Trump, who hasn't spoken anything truthful in his entire political career and will be golfing (at the tax payers expense) on his own golf courses and shouting soundbites from time to time while putting his signature on anything that is given to him.

Normally if a country self destructs in such a stupid way the rest of the world can sort of ignore it, but this clown has a nuclear launch button.

Some comments from earlier in the thread:

Well, I have a feeling that Trump will "suddenly" remember Project 2025 and the "good, decent" people behind it now. Guess we'll see just how much will be implemented.

He'll implement as much of it as he possibly can and claim it was his idea all along.

Don't forget the "Bloodbath". "Firing Squads" for Liz Cheney. Those "very fine people" will now be empowered to round up undesirables for the internment camps. All will now be forced to hail and palm salute the new "Reich" leader. All these things should begin soon according to Democrats. Unless they were lying again, which is far more likely.

Now that he is the POTUS elect, he isn't distancing himself from it.

Some of you knew this would happen.

I genuinely believed Americans were smarter and nicer than has been proven with the election and this past month.

Some of you weren't surprised at all, but it's been a massively huge shock and disappointment to me.
Sadly, I expected as much, and to be honest, I expect things are going to get a lot worse before they get better....

As the board's resident Cassandra I'd just like to say that I'm disappointed with myself. In retrospect, it's clear that I've been far too optimistic.

For all that I thought that Project 2025 would be implemented, I never thought that there would be a (double !) Nazi salute at the inauguration - followed by frantic scrabbling from the GOP mainstream to explain that it wasn't a salute and that those suggesting that it was are just big meanies.

Likewise with the slew of Executive Orders (EOs). I assumed that these kinds of things would gradually be snuck in over a period of weeks or months, not brazenly implemented by EO and supinely accepted by Congress.

well you also forgot the part about the rich foreigner establishing the fake department while issuing security clearances, accessing sensitive payroll data, and locking out the officials that are supposed to have access.

and the crypto stuff, they’re going to steal hundreds of billions from the taxpayers doing that. that’s the biggest financial con here.

this stuff is bonkers.

You and me both. This is horrifying.

Don't worry, the maga weirdos will soon be gaslighting for their cult leader about project 2025, and how his intial denial of knowledge was him playing 11-nty dimension chess, and how Musk's clear nazi salute was a kinder, gentler nazi salute.

"Dictator on Day One". First promise Trump has ever kept.

Mentioned elsewhere: All the data Muskrat's team steals will go direct to Russia and China.

Awesome. :sarcasm:

I knew Trump was bonkers but I was too optimistic in thinking that the adults in the room would not go along with his idiocies. In that I was wrong... there are no Republican adults. (And of course I knew that, when Biden stepped down, there was no way the USA would elect a woman, not to mention a black one, as president).

For those who voted for Trump, well they are getting what they want - but some will pay the price - didn't they read Project 2025? Sigh. Probably not.

For those who didn't bother to vote for whatever reason, I am and will always be angry at. We all are reaping the chaos whirlwind.

Those who vote for dictators generally believe that the bad parts of their projects will not apply to themselves (and that if it does it will be temporary and not as severe for them as for their adversaries).

Those who don't bother to vote usually fail to consider that most dictators do actually mean what they say, even if what they say appears to be lunatic's ravings that nobody would actually act upon.

There are also those who cannot bring themselves to vote for least bad, because he or she is not going to implement their own pet policy.

The 'That'll show them' brigade, thinking that it means next time 'their' party will move further to the left to appease them...rather than logically concluding that not only does that let a further right party in but it potentially encourages 'their party' to think that's the direction the votes are.

Yes, and also the idealists who could only vote for their own candidate, and bugger all.

I definitely would never vote for Trump, but me not voting in no way affected the outcome. I moved from a swing state to a solidly red state between elections. Because of the electoral college, my vote in a state that Trump won by 30 something points is utterly useless. If I was still in the swing state, I would have been voting as soon as possible or I would have voted if the EC did not exist.

You are right even if you had voted, Trump would still be president but if only a small percentage of Red State non-voters had voted against Trump he would have lost the popular vote and that would have made his 'Landslide Victory, Will of the People' claims even more stupid.

To be fair, that's a tactic of the right of parties a lot more than the left, including in 2024. A large number of sitting Dems were primaried by DINOs in marginal seats, when the only chance of a Dem win was a strong left wing candidate.

The far right will never be ushered in by the left, because the moderates will have stabbed them in the back for that honour.
