I've seen several posters freely comparing the current American regime to the one which rose to power in 1930s Germany.

I'm curious to know how deep this comparison runs, in the minds of those that make it. Do they expect the establishment of work camps for the masses of untermenschen? An armed invasion of Greenland for the sake of lebensraum in the east? New laws banning interracial marriage and stripping selected ethnic groups of citizenship? Mass deportation schemes akin to the Madagascar Plan?

I'll check back on this thread in four years to see whose predictions were closest to the truth and offer them a free lunch at CSICon.

I'm sure you're aware of the Dreyfus affair and Europe's long history of anti-semitism (among other prejudices) so it's hard to imagine why you think "persecution of minorities" should warrant the Nazi comparison in particular, at least not without taking it to the sort of extremes they did.

That aside, this is too vague to count as a prediction, since America has always had at least some persecution of minorities.

There's nothing that the US will do that even closely resembles the Third Reich. Know your history.

Mass detention camps planned across the USA. Gitmo and 30,000 illegals being "deported". All of them brown people, aka untermenschen.
An armed invasion of Greenland for the sake of lebensraum in the east?
Considering the US is already there anyway, no. Even Trump knows he can't make international mistakes. So this is just posturing. But they may double the on-ground forces there (from 50 to 100), if that counts as an "invasion".
New laws banning interracial marriage and stripping selected ethnic groups of citizenship?
Sadly, yes, particularly for brown people. This is in the blueprint, Project 2025.
Project 2025 would take America back in time by removing civil rights protections from anyone who its authors do not deem worthy of protection. The policy document opens with a call for the next president to delete terms such as sexual orientation; gender identity; diversity, equity, and inclusion; gender equity; reproductive health; and reproductive rights “out of every federal rule, agency regulation, contract, grant, regulation, and piece of legislation that exists,” pushing Americans in those categories outside of the scope of federal protection.

This dangerous agenda is already playing out in state legislatures nationwide, where hundreds of bills reflecting the same active hostility toward people of color, LGBTQI+ individuals, women, and children have been introduced. Those that have become law are responsible for banning diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility (DEIA) policies; regulating access to bathrooms and locker rooms for transgender people; criminalizing homelessness; limiting what can be taught to K-12 and college students; and restricting access to best-practice health care. Many states have made the practice of book banning commonplace: Florida leads with the highest number of book bans, followed by Texas, Missouri, Utah, and Pennsylvania. Project 2025 would supercharge this regression and take it nationwide.
Mass deportation schemes akin to the Madagascar Plan?
Already under way: The proposal to move 2-3 million Gazans out of the Strip and dumping them on highly reluctant neighbours. I'm sure the planners expected that all the Middle East was totally homogenous people who were all the one type of Muslim, and there was plenty of "living room" in all the countries. So they expected the Gazans could easily be displaced anywhere with no problems. And in fact would welcome it!

Done with thanks! Airfares too?

Before anybody says it, US had Japanese internment camps during WWII. It was a horrible stain on our history and I'm certain something like that would never happen again. As such as a small consolation as it sounds, it's nothing compared to concentration camps that were basically just death factories.

given that many nazi policies and actions were modelled on the US treatment of Native Americans and former Slaves, I say that the US has resembled the Third Reich in the Past, so there is no good reason to assume that it could not do so, again.

I might agree with you on that if not for media. We have internet now and back then there were very few outlets for a news consumption that weren't filtered for propaganda at a state level.

That doesn't ignore the news consumption on X, TikTok, Instagram, etc. - but at least people can get a more reasoned alternative if they really feel like it. And, granted, I think most people don't want a challenge to their belief systems.

but most of the Media is firmly in the hands of the Tech Bros who, though not a monolith, are all in lockstep when it comes to keep the unwashed masses in line. The efforts to control TikTok are very much aimed at bring it under the umbrella of US Tech Bro control.

As with all forms of Authoritarianism, the problem is that those who could stop the process have an invective to play along until they no longer have a choice.

Children in cages.

I cannot seem to find that in the full PDF.

Where should I be looking to find marriage bans and ethnic criteria for citizenship?

Have the nefarious plotters at Project 2025 unveiled a plan to roll back the Jones-Shafroth ActWP or other bills which gave us brown people citizenship in the first place?

Using the Judiciary and Law Enforcement to harasses political and public opponents, and decide to not investigate acts of violence perpetrated against them.
I hate to nitpick, but isn't that in the authoritarian playbook more generally?

If the thing you are thinking of was done by Stalin or Mao, it's not necessarily on point to leap to "Nazism," is it?
