Sorry... hadn't opened the thread in a week, so I only just saw this...
... This events was predicted to be seen by millions, and as a result the American economy suffered some 700 million dollars in lost revenue, because for a while everything/most things...stopped.
Really?
Where the hell did this come from?
Imagination? Wild ass guess?
Or could it be true?
My first thought would be the opposite.
Most of the workers would have used vacation time.
And hundreds of otherwise sleepy-ish small to mid sized towns got large numbers of eclipse travelers in, patronizing the local shops and eateries (gas stations too, come to think of it).
Plus... thousands of out of the way RV parks, campgrounds and motels/hotels suddenly found themselves booked up.
I'd guess an absolute **** ton of disposable income got poured into the economy, thanks to the eclipse. Even more helpful... the
where it got distributed.
Sure, a drop in the bucket that is the GDP, but certainly appreciated by who knows how many Mom & Pop establishments.
I'd be surprised if that was offset, nay... widely negated, by a half hour of "everything... stopped".
(that's a broad claim itself. I think I know what you meant, though I'd disagree.)
But I've been wrong before, will be again... show me the numbers KotA.
