Here are some pics of my current library. Everything is just "as is", nothing posed. The first two pics are of the bookcases of stuff I haven't read yet. There are, of course, several books stacked in other areas that I have not pictured here. Amazingly, I've bought very few books in the last few years. Just using the time to catch up, I guess.

The initial quality is good enough to read the titles on all books. Shrinking them to JREF Forum standards reduces the quality quite a bit. Any hints on how to post them at full clarity are welcomed. You can double-click on a picture for a slightly larger version.

Any questions about any items pictured are also welcomed! (I.E. "What the heck is that?")

That would not be reasonably possible - at last actual count I had 14,000 some paperbacks and 3000 some hardbounds (about 50-50 non-fic/fic). That does not count films, dvds,LPs 45s or other audios, periodicals, pamphlets/clippings, etc. The count was last time I moved ('98) and it has grown some since (got more interested in film history/black film history and cooking)

I long ago ran out of space in the house (smallish house), so I put shelves in a small barn for the less valuable books. This is a partial view of the main room.

And I thought I had a lot of books! You people must be eternally afraid of fire. The thought of all those books, up in flames, is a bit scary and depressing.

So how do you all have yours organized? I have general subjects separated out, like "These shelves/bookcase(s) are for science fiction books, these for computer & programming" and so forth, but they aren't arranged alphabetically.

The only sections I arrange alphabetically are those for fiction, sorted by letter but no ordering within those, except to try to keep each author's work together. Everything else is by general subject, or in some areas, totally random, since the organized shelf space was filled years ago. Fire is not nearly as much of a problem for me as mice.
