I've only fairly recently became aware of Peter Turner, the UK mentalist/mind reader. The more I see him perform (to laymen) or lecture (to other performers), the more I'm impressed with his work. He seems to have an innate understanding of human psychology and how to manipulate it (and, no, not in a fake NLP/Derren Brown kind of way). I find his combination of traditional methods and new thinking and great presentation skills amazingly impressive--in my view, a true new-generation mentalist taking that art to a new level (IMHO, as an amateur magician and mentalist).

Are others here familiar with his work? What do you guys think of him?

If you're not familiar with Pete, here's a video:

I think he is more similar to Derren Brown than you think. Have you ever watched him perform live?

Writing as someone who is an amateur, but I believe knowledgeable amateur, the video Adman linked to couldn't be performed live in front of an audience (because your odds of success are too low for a live audience performance). How many young woman did he perform this on before finding someone worthy of uploading to You Tube/TV just as we never know how many street performances Derren Brown performs for every one performance he includes in his TV specials. When you perform live in front of a large audience or live TV you can't afford many failures so the routine he did would be excluded.

My point being I'm undecided if he is a "new-generation" performer.

I can see how this might be of interest to the subject, but I found the video boring - does this stuff fly as entertainment?

I've never seen him perform live, only recorded stuff. And I've seen a couple of his lectures (aimed at other performers). I still am very impressed with his work, and still think that he is in fact pushing mentalism in a new direction.

Just my $0.02, as an amateur performer.

Do his lectures consist of teaching some routines? When he opens his hands multiple times making his spectator look up do you see that as more than simple misdirection? How do you define "new direction?"
