• Quick note - the problem with Youtube videos not embedding on the forum appears to have been fixed, thanks to ZiprHead. If you do still see problems let me know.

Perhaps a stupid question?

Okay, I'm not a magician. I don't have any great interest but I do remember reading a book back in the late 1970s that explained a lot of tricks and how to do them. I thought it was fascinating.

Where can I find such a book today? Or preferably, a website?

Go to Youtube then look for "magic" then dont believe everything you see or read. A great source of magic books would be the remainder stores or a good second hand book store. Also try your local library. All obvious but with a little patience you can find some absolute gems. If you don't have any great interest though, why bother?

No great interest, but I have always liked the craft. Perhaps like hypnotism; I have a passing interest, and have learnt to do a couple of "parlor tricks" with the knowledge.

I have eclectic interests....

The general concensus from another thread is that Mark Wilson's "Complete Course in Magic" is probably the best place to start.

If coins particularly, J. B. Bobo's "Modern Coin Magic".

If cards, Jean Hugard's "Royal Road to Card Magic".

If mentalism, Corinda's "13 Steps to Mentalism".

If hypnosis, please explain for what purpose.

None of the above are expensive.

Should we give such advice to such a question? The Op justs wants to learn secrets rather than the art.

Thanks - that is what I am after. It's just curiosity.

Yeah, I must admit that I paused before posting it. I finally figured that none of these books are at all hard to discover and were even mentioned in the other thread anyway.

One can only hope that curiosity will become at the least a greater appreciation.

We can hope. Performing magic hasn't ruined watching it for me. It's really interesting to see how a given performer dresses up a trick as compared to another.

Yeah, that's how it works for me too.

If I don't know how it's done I enjoy being fooled and the intellectual game of trying to work out how.

If I do know how it's done then I can appreciate the artistry involved and the individual presentation.

A win either way.

Unless it's Chris Angel. :D

Can anyone tell me something about David Copperfield, the famous magician?

I can tell you that you get over 2 million hits if you type in 'David Copperfield' in google. About 1/2 of them are related the Charles Dickens novel, but type 'David Copperfield magic' and you still get over 700,000.

What else would you like to know?
