Penn & Teller - Fool Us

Not to be smug or something (other tricks did fool me), but I spotted that disguise of Chris Dugdale right away (before he even got to the stage). One tip: It's in the nose, you can just see it's not natural.
From that point on, the trick was easy to figure out, including the selection from the audience.

I did have some experience with it though. A Dutch TV-personality, Wendy van Dijk, disguised herself twice on national television, once as "Lucretia" and once as "Loesie" and then revealed it.

The editing in Ettienne's routine was shocking, the card in bottle, there was no visible relation to the effect.Bad.

I'm a bit late but... personally, I thought Chris' trick was fantastic until he revealed himself. It felt like he sacrificed the mystery for the shock value, because once you knew it was him, there wasn't much of a trick left. Penn explained how he got himself on stage, and the rest was obvious.

For those who care, the final episode (until a rumoured christmas special) will air on sunday (28th) at 9 pm. I'm looking forward to it!

Also, Penn & Teller will be in London on december 7th and 8th. The shows are called 'In conversation with Penn & Teller' so it won't be their full stage show, but rather an intimate evening with a few tricks, anecdotes, videos etc...

The cards all say, "Say your name out loud". ;)

Nice. My first reaction (without having watched the episode, and assuming the girl wasn't in on it) was the performer used some Dual Reality effect like Derren Brown likes to do. I'm going to have to watch it and listen to the guy's patter. ;)

I was disappointed by Martin Daniels performing an Asrah illusion. The Asrah illusion is amazing and one of my favourites, and perhaps seeing other performances of it recently soured me on it, but this one was performed very poorly. They didn't go through the whole thing about whether P&T were fooled or not because, as the great Paul Daniels said afterwards, it wasn't to fool them since he knows they know how it's done.

It's great to see Paul Daniels is still around, though.

EDIT: Also, an annoyance of mine is when a card is signed and then the magician "tries to find it" but intentionally produces the 'wrong' card and then the magician asks if that was the card when the magician can clearly see that the produced card is UNSIGNED. Penn does that a lot with the water torture card effect.

And a bad camera angle revealed the climax prematurely, if my eyes didn't trick me.

But I did enjoy it, still!

The thing is, must be my eyesight but when he did the final reveal of the chosen card , I couldn't see any writing on it.

It was the signed card but as it was a court card, it was hard to see. I could read it after looking closely.

I think it's common knowledge among card magicians that court cards don't make good signed cards. And it's a good idea to make the volunteer select a card that looks good (without their knowledge). The card is going to be signed, making the suit and value of the card unimportant beyond aesthetics and the clarity of the identifying feature people care about.

I enjoyed the latest (last?) episode. I even like the Asrah levitation, which was more meant as a tribute to Paul Daniels. And P&T seemed to enjoy it as well.

With regards to the signed card, yes, you do try to get them to choose one with a lot of white space that will show off the signature, but if it's a free choice there's no real way to control that.

You could see the card was actually signed when they zoomed in to the tank and Teller's mask.

I still can't quite figure out how he was breathing, but as I saw them perform in Vegas after TAM 9, which happened after the series was shot, and shook Teller's hand, I assume he was. ;)

With ragrds P&T finding the worng card-no signature-I assume they are being ironic.
