Over 300 self-confessed computer addicts have participated in a competition in the central Ukrainian city of Zaporizhzhya to destroy their own hardware in a spectacular fashion.

The event, dubbed the "First Open Computer Destruction Championship", was organised by a local FM radio station with the professed aim of raising young people's awareness of the dangers of spending too much time in front of a computer.

The competition comprised three main events - throwing a keyboard, kicking a computer mouse, and the most popular, the "creative destruction" of computer monitors.

This one caught my eye...

I would destroy my monitor by building a BattleBot and letting it have at the damned Hewlitt-Packard...

Heh...I wish I could post the video of my old Apple IIc meeting it's end on the wrong end of my Maadi-Griffin .50BMG at 250 meters... The parts cascade was spectacular.

Back in University, our computer science club had a 'Computer Bash'. Someone had donated a rather large "mini-computer" computer to our club. (This was back in the 1980s, when a mini-computer was several feet high and wide.)

We didn't think the computer was worth saving, so we decided to use it to raise money... For $1, you could take a swing at it with a sledge hammer.
