Besides, you can't expect people not to comment if irony attends your demise. Personally, I think it's funny because it happened to someone that made a living telling people not to question God's will.

Exactly, and you can't expect people not to comment to you if they don't find it funny, disagree with you or are offended by your attitude toward it. I personally am not, but I am annoyed that you and Claus think you can laugh at it and then get all defensive when someone doesn't like it and expresses it.
If you can't laugh at death, you can laugh at countless other things that occur every day. Not everybody can laugh at death, some people are terrified by it and may have had an experience recently that makes the subject not funny. Just because you make a cliche out of it doesn't make it true.
Also, how is the priest getting electrocuted ironic? Stepping in to a pool of water with an electrical device strapped to your neck, you would expect someone to get fried eventually. I guess from the standpoint that God should protect someone doing something so holy, it might work.
