Palin & Family Guy

Good grief, how thick is this woman? Either ignore it or laugh with it. Ranting about it just gives the show publicity and makes it certain they'll go for her again.

Not that I mind, I love Family Guy and think Palin's a moron. I'm just amazed that any public figure could be so stupid.

Indeed, Family Guy can be incredibly offensive, they pull NO punches. I have been slightly offended by several things they have portrayed. But hey, its Family Guy. :)

Palin needs to learn to play along...or don't play at all.

I have a problem with going at her through her kids, though. It's one thing to rag on her for the dumb thing her and her husband do. I think its over the line when you shoot at the kids.

Doesn't Sarah herself provide enough material?

I didn't see the episode, but it seems to me showing a woman with Down's syndrome out on a date is actually a POSITIVE image....isn't it?

Family Guy had an episode about slavery that I found quite offensive. In fact that, they insult many ethnic groups in ways that would totally warrant a lawsuit if it was in a work setting.

Family Guy is rude, offensive, and over the line. And that's why we love it.

:p

I fail to see how anyone can take her "outrage" on the subject seriously, after she was so willing to excuse Limbaugh.

Limbaugh was being sarcastic huh? He was simply joking?

then so was Family Guy.

unless you wanna appear to be a flip-flopping fair weather friend of political correctness and decency.

Wait, how was this an attack on Sarah Palin?

She's not named and there is nothing like an attack.

of course it was an attack!!!

it was rude, insensitive, and over the line.

That's Family Guy!!!!!!!!!

:)

It's about as subtle as being hit over the head with a blue whale, but that same episode also had a storyline about psychics and cold reading.

He's by no means a nuanced or terribly interesting writer, but the show has consistently taken an anti-woo stance to a mainstream audience, something I appreciate.
Thats because all of the good writing goes to American Dad. It has the best Christmas episode I have ever seen with a plot twist that came right out of the Twilight Zone.

I haven't loved it in a while. I liked it better when Stewie was a megalomaniac trying to kill his mother. Now, it's just a bunch of non-sequitors strung together by a thin plot(?).

I actually loved the episode about Peter finding out he had a black ancestor (Stewie becoming a cheerleader was better though), but if someone took a shot at your kids to get to you, you would have a right to be mad.

I’m envisioning a Star Wars-esque meeting between her and Al Sharpton in a few years.

“Hiya there. I left ya’ but the learner, but now I’m the master, doncha know?”

She makes a lot of speaches about her kids though. She gets a lot of political milage having a child with downs syndrome.

Unfortunately American dad has such boring characters that the show is unwatchable no matter what happens to them.

Family guy used to be brilliant, but it sucks now. :(

They probably wrote the girl with Downs syndrome and a mom who used to be the governor of Alaska to get exactly this response.

I've seen the clip, but not the whole episode. The clip portrays a teenage girl with down's syndrome who is dating one of the main characters. She was portrayed as the smart one in the situation, and when asked what her parents did she said her mother was the former governor of Alaska, just a total Family Guy throwaway joke that didn't have to do with anything.

Nobody would have even noticed it if Palin hadn't played the victim card (and these days, it seems she plays it more frequently than anyone).

But I'll stand corrected if the rest of the episode turns out to somehow put things in a worse context.

I saw the episode and that was my response.

In fact, I thought the portrayal of her was far less offensive than what you usually see on TV, where all DS kids are cute and innocent like Corky on Life Goes On. My friends with DS I had growing up all were great, and I liked them a lot (and still do) but they were also people with plenty of human failings. I thought it was actually an honest representation for a change.

Sarah Palin is outraged about Sunday's Family Guy episode because it depicted a girl with Down syndrome as being a bad guy:

http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.co...x’s-‘family-guy’/?fbid=OPJb4LKUF--#more-90520

The episode, if guilty of anything, was guilty of expressing the false message, "I thought people with Down syndrome were special, but you're not! You're just like anyone else!"

It did bring up a touchy subject: the sex/romantic lives of people with Down syndrome. Too bad Palin isn't in favor of discussing such topics.

This incident gives me deja vu.

ETA: I wonder too if Palin thinks people with Down syndrome remain babies or children forever? Or if that's how they should be considered.
I feel that Family Guy is an assault on the senses. I mean that in a very negative way. The humor to me is immature and idiotic. I'm no fan of Palin but I'm sure she is justified.

How is this worse than when Stewie found a McCain-Palin button on a Nazi uniform?
