Well, the owl wasn't flying before--now it is--so, it must be the acupuncture, right? :rolleyes:

Granted, those needles probably don't hurt the animal much, but it just makes me cringe seeing that poor owl being turned into a hedgehog :eek:

This really annoys me. I'm not even sure why - clearly there are much worse examples of harm caused by irrational beliefs.

Maybe its the unquestioning attitude of the news piece towards the nonsense - in combination with a light weight feelgood story. This is the kind of media reporting that encourages naive people to believe in such things.

One owl flys away - and the world is just a little bit more screwed up as a result. Sigh....

Yep, that's exactly what rubbed me the wrong way about this story, the way it just 'matter-of-factly' makes these unsubstantiated claims, so that if you had lived in a cave your whole life you'd think acupuncture was universally accepted. Even Wikipedia is pretty damning of acupuncture, so it's not like you have to dig deep to find out the general facts about whether it is effective or not.
 
Nothing new here. In the wild, mosquitoes are drawn to chakra lines and administer a natural form of acupuncture. This is primarily why owls do not get cancer.

Once again, man "invents" something Momma Nature has been doing all along.

Not all education has to come from schools and textbooks you know. It's a sad state of affairs when one cannot accept the wonderfulness surrounding us every day. But not surprising.

We live in a world of our own construction. One can hardly touch anything within even the span of five arm-reaches which hasn't been shaped and modified by the hand and will of man.

If only Mother Nature had had the foresight to apply for intellectual property rights.

I'd like to point out the owl did get better. And I'll bet a dollar the owl doesn't have to return for any follow-up acupuncture, relying on mosquitoes from here on out.
 
When I first saw the thread title I thought it would be about someone getting stabbed with an owl. My stream of consiousness wandered down the path of other owl-based therapies and, naturally, the phrase "owl suppository" came to mind.

I don't know what that treatment cures but I don't have it and never will.

ETA: At 38 seconds in the OP video, it appears the veterinarian is using light-based, non-invasive acupuncture for re-balancing. Do I need to remind anyone here that veterinarians are highly educated in science and the healing arts?
