Outrage over Halloween costumes

True story!

Whites are still picking up the pieces that were the product of that one Vanilla Ice song and the one Vanilla Ice movie.

You left out the Vanilla Ice home renovation show. The whitest thing ever!

When I lived in St. George Utah, we were tempted to go out as FLDS women. We were not sure how our regular LDS neighborhood would react to that. Plus, I tended to view the FLDS women and children as victims of their church, so I would have seemed unfair to make fun of them.

Personally, I wish we could get back to the good old days of being offended by the over-sexualization of Halloween costumes - complete with photographic evidence.

One of the last years I took the kids trick-or-treating, I went as a bad mommy. Bathrobe, slippers, snarled hair, pillow under shirt, and a glass of tonic water with a lime slice.

Nobody accused me of cultural appropriation, thankfully.

Many years ago, I worked as a bartender in a country and western dance club in GA. For Halloween, I dressed in full drag. I couldn't believe how many girls hit on me that night. Just throwing that out there. I say if you're a guy and want to dress up in drag, just do it. You might be pleasantly surprised. *
I think most people probably have a good idea what can fly as a costume where they live. Like TM said, if you're going to push it expect that somebody might criticize you. I really don't think most people will care if you 30'ish and go to a club to party on Halloween. It might be a different story if you go to a party on a liberal arts college campus.
We remember the famous, " you're here to make a home" scream fest at Yale two years ago. Have a look at some of the pictures of the Halloween costumes worn at parties that year on campus. They were all fun, silly, and creative. Nothing close to what the screaming protestors thought might be worn. I would say that most kids on campus are clever enough not to need anyone holding their hands. The SJW protestations are mostly virtue signaling.

*I should that there was one couple that night dressed as a member of the KKK and Aunt Jemima in full blackface. It was GA after all.

I went as a wino one year, which allowed me to carry multiple bottles of cheap wine in paper bags in my coat pockets to refill all the parents we went out trick or treating with. Some houses offered to refill our supply later in the night when we asked them to recycle our bottles. It was a fairly good night.

Nobody accused me of cultural appropriation, unfortunately.

Being Native american, I simply don't understand the outrage over the Halloween costumes. I even own one two. It's a silly holiday people, lighten up! I find it's a great time to get sloshed, be offensive and/or act like a jerk, and it's socially acceptable. What's to complain about?

I know someone who's going as Cersei Clinton. Her boyfriend is going to be Ser Jaime Trump, complete with a very tiny golden hand.

Back when she was in her anime phase she went as Sailor Palin.

I like the costume mash-ups :) Although tbf my only exposure is my god-daughter, who went as a ninja butterfly some years ago.

If they had realized it was a costume, I'm sure they would have...

:duck:

I was doubting on whether or not I should go for the Dr Frank-en-Furter costume this Halloween... however, now that I know that doing so would offend a lot of SJW's, I'm convinced I should totally do it!

Then show up at the polls on election day in the same getup. Preferably without having changed out of it in the previous week

I played Frank-N-Furter every weekend for five years; the only people I ever offended (to my knowledge) were skinheads, who tried to beat up the whole cast in the parking lot after the show. Oh yeah, and that one guy who was upset I was flirting with him or whatever.

"Dude," I told him in my normal voice, "it's a costume. It's theater. You're not even that cute."

There was a wonderful image posted on Facebook showing the line drawing of the Burr/Hamilton duel with the caption "If dueling was still legal, I bet there'd be a lot less 'outrage'".

Just sayin'.
