On What Basis Does "Skeptics" Appear in the Forum Name?

Show me someone practising critical thinking who doesn't know what scepticism is.

[People reading this thread as a point of entrance to the fora probably realize they should flee now ... quick! don't get trapped!]
No reason to flee, we agree on this point. I would certainly hope most other skeptics here do too, although my evidence for that is anecdotal.

Insults to whom?

Remember... we are all atheists and skeptics here... no?
No. I am not an atheist. Are you suggesting that I am unwelcome here?
Is the label "skeptic" as a descriptive for a person of high importance to you?

very little basis I feel- imho this has become a `feelgood' forum with very little to nothing to do with the original jref forums
apart from the computer forum- its a total waste of my time imho- the mods dont even want to do anything about outright plagiarism thats totally misrepresenting the posters posts- why even bother

I certainly wont be back sadly- its a shame to see yet another once good forum bite the dust

Its sad when even godlike is starting to look like its the sanest forum to post on...
:-(

Glances at AAH....

Uh huh.... See ya!

Well..... ;)

But seriously the forum was never set up for any particular group bar those that followed or knew about Randi and his debunking.

A board member of the JREF and someone who had total control of the Forum in the early days was (if I recall correctly) a deist. There have been moderators with religious beliefs, I think there may still be some on the team now. I would hate to see that having to hold any particular belief be used as a membership criteria, whether that be a religious belief or even a heresy like not worshipping The TEA.

I was here a fortnight after the Forum opened to the public and I don't recognise your description.

Which has been the case since the day the forum started, indeed there was much more of that in the past when there was not the explicit rules about not attacking each other. (ETA) Do you not recall when the administrator changed a poster's title to humiliate him/her, or a mod attacked a member's disabled son and altered posts and so on?

I think you are looking at the past through golden tinted glasses.

Isn't this fourm owned by a foundation, it says somewhere on the website I think. (The foundation actively supports and make contributions to skepticism or whatever)

That was when the forum was owned and paid for by the James Randi Educational Foundation. It no longer is.

From the bottom of every page:
This forum began as part of the James Randi Education Foundation (JREF). However, the forum now exists as an independent entity with no affiliation with or endorsement by the JREF, including the section in reference to "JREF" topics.

I actually agree that the forum is not as good as it once was - but I'm talking about general quality of dialog. I think I joined in 2003? Can't see my avatar right now.

I am not enjoying it much anymore and this may very well be my final post.

Maybe it's me? Maybe I'm just sick of it or I spend too much time in Politics. A lot of good "old-time" posters have left and that's really a shame.

From my perspective skepticism is not a big aspect of this forum anymore. When the forum was part of Randi's thing you knew going in what the website was about, and if you didn't know who Randi is and what he's all about, you soon did.

I think this forum needs to be part of a bigger site. It does nothing to advance critical thinking, or even encourage it right here in this forum.

Anyways, it's been real.
