This Saturday sees me off on another little investigation. I'm going to use my usual research methods, but as the beasticle is supposedly active, I wondered if anyone could think of any new experimental methods I could try? I have already experimented with psychics here using the Schmeidler based methods I described before - with very interesting results, but given it is a public building with a well known history nothing remotely conclusive. I have control of the building with no public for about 20 hours, including overnight, and a team of willing and trustworthy researchers.

What I'd relly like is to try testing some hypotheses, and tryingt o answer researchquestions. These can be about beghaviour and psychology of investigators as legitimately as about the spook if any - we can't tell if there is a spook, assuming such things exist, but I guess we can test theories put forward to account for them if they do. Anyway any ideas? :)

Are you far from North Carolina? *hope not* I claim to perceive ghosts, to see and hear and also communicate two-ways with them. I've previously asked on the Forums to be taken to a supposedly haunted location unknown to me where I couldn't possibly know about the history and we'll see if my ramblings have any correlation with the historical facts. Can I come with? Please?

Hi VfromF - I'd love to ask you along, but sadly I'm in the UK. However the Rhine Institute, Durham, North Carolina may be interested in hearing from you? http://www.rhine.org/ - have a look see if of interest?

VFF -- I happen to have in my possession a list of haunted motel rooms all along the East coast of the US. cj.23 is a piker. I'd love to help you distinguish rambings from fact. I live for that ;)

:( Aren't you supposed to servicing some beasticle?

Senex, you're just trying to get me and you all alone into a dark remote motel room.

Various industries have contributed to the advancement of the human race. But what has the Rhine Research Center done?

For instance:

Space (NASA) spinoffs:
Virtual Reality
Scratch-resistant lenses
Wireless communications
plus more...

Formula 1™ racing spinoffs: (no pun intended)
Tire/tyre pressure monitoring
Slip-resistant footwear
"Monocoque" wheelchair
plus more...

Rhine Research Center spinoffs?
Maybe someone could add some useful technologies, testing methodologies or insights that have resulted from the Rhine? "I heard a noise," "I felt a chill," and "I talk to trees" don't count as useful or verifiable spinoffs.

None that I am aware of, outside of a few advances in psychology and medicine and they may have come from other places in parapsychology research. AH yes! Massive improvements in our understanding of statistics - that has been the major result of the Rhine Centre, as parapsychologists and sceptics debating research did much to popularise proper methodology and understand the strengths and weaknesses of various statistical measures. In that sense parapsychology has been a major contributor to knowledge...

In terms of technology, nowt I know of --the same is true of huge amounts of theoretical physics though. We should and must pursue blue skies research if the aim is truth and knowledge, not just better weapons, faster cars and more comfortable living rooms. :)

You might see if you can measure how scared people are.
I don't believe in spooks , but my subconscious does. I can tell because when alone in my flat I'm perfectly happy until I turn all the lights out. There's still enough light to move around, from streetlights, but I find I prefer to have a light on and feel the old fingers down the back of my neck if I don't, with the following exceptions:-
1. If I'm in bed.
2. If I'm in the bath. (Found this out when I had a headache one winter's evening and lay in a hot bath for two hours in the dark.
3. When I'm doing ANYTHING for which I have a conscious need to be in the dark.

In other words, I'm only nervous in the dark in my own flat when I'm not doing something specific and deliberately chosen.

I think this is related to why I'm only nervous in cars when I'm a passenger. My mind is not being kept occupied, so I get twitchy.

I've been inseveral places where I got a shade spooked, alone in the dark. I've also been in a number of supposedly haunted places. The two sets barely intersect. I get spooked when I'm not expecting it.

Can you ask your volunteers (and yourself) to note carefully when you feel a bit windy, whether it lasts more than a few seconds and what (if anything) seems to trigger the start and end of such sensation? I'd like to know if it correlates to any sensation of anaomalous activity in the place rather than the observer. I think it won't. I do think it may correlate to periods of inattention. I think fear can be caused by a subconscious process just failing to fire enough neurons to grab conscious attention. We sense that something happened, suppose it to be external, but either fail to identify the external cause (there is none) or wrongly suppose the cause was whatever external event is detectable- a draught, a temperature change, a squeaky floorboard.

HI Sam,

I have played around with the idea in the past of taking GSR readings ot see if they are reacting at unconscious level to cues, and I have experimented a lot with asking people to "imagine which rooms would be haunted". The problem is deriving some kind of measurable objective data, rather than rather nebulous self report. I have been trying to find ways ot do that for years. I've posted this on here before, indeed I wrote it here, but I think it is similar to the kind of thing you have in mind, and I employ it quite frequently - most recently a couple of years back in an experiment at Tamworth Castle.

Anyway good idea - see whst you think of this - http://jerome23.wordpress.com/2009/...es-quantatitive-assessment-of-haunted-houses/

I will certainly try this

and report back. :)

When time becomes available I'm setting up a Ghost Investigations group myself. We're already two people but will add some more. I will be the psychic, of course, but I'm also interested in the technical and instrumental aspect. One thing I do not like is when investigation groups produce *some* instrumental readings and interpret those as indication of the presence of ghosts. What makes that connection? I would be very careful with how things are interpreted, and, due to the difficulty level of this kind of investigations, our results will be presented as for entertainment purposes only, and I will make sure that we do not use any words such as "science" or "evidence" in our investigations. But, that's just me.

Our first site will be the battleship USS North Carolina. I haven't even been there yet but can already see and communicate with the men. I know, this sounds suspicious, but I make no apologies for what I experience. It is interesting, at least.

The battleship will be the perfect first location. The men are very charming and they want to take me dancing. I told one of them that I would love to help them sweep the floors, he thought that was very funny and told everyone and they all laughed at that.

Our investigations will be filmed and made available for free on our upcoming website.

Really? Any independent verification that these men you are talking to were actually on the ship?

Imagination is not very interesting since anyone is capable of that.

Hi VisionFromFeeling,

Here is a partial list of equipment/technologies used as a supposed means to detect ghosts:
• EMF meter (Electromagnetic field or electromagnetic fluctuation)
• EVP (Electronic Voice Phenomena) recordings made on tape or digital media
• Night Vision video cameras
• Infrared Thermal Imaging cameras
Ovilus
Frank's Box (Telephone to the Dead)
• Ouija Board

None of the devices/technologies have been proven to have found a ghost. Not one.

In most cases, the people using equipment don't know how to properly operate, or understand, the readings.

There is no proven device that is designed and built with a "find a ghost" setting.

Good luck with your video. I hope you don't end up pointing flashlights under your faces in the dark for a "spooky" effect.

Hi Kariboo - I see you are new to dealing with VisionFromFeeling.

We tried to get this poster to narrow down some other specific claims on this thread.
In the end in ran to 51 pages and was closed down.
2 other threads have had to be moderated because of how off topic it all gets.
No test ever happened.

Good luck in getting evidence, independent verification or a specific claim that is then actually tested.

My claim is and has been to detect medical information that should not be detectable by ordinary means of perception. I have other experiences that I am not interested in proving but that some of the JREF Skeptics have insisted that I look into, meanwhile I intend to stay focused on my main claim and not to stray off.

The reason the first thread was closed was because of harassment against me by the JREF Forum Skeptics. And it is the same reason why the second thread that relates to my claim was placed on moderated status. It is not because of me, as Ashles seems to make it sound.

I am making progress in my investigation, but not as fast as the Skeptics here would like. Everything is all ok in my investigation. Skeptics are, well... just being Skeptics. :)

Pack a riding crop. There is nothing like striking a happy medium! :D

hehehe... I hope you don't mind if steal that. I don't usually pack the crop for the first ghost hunting date. The haunted HorseFarm in Williamstowm NJ is usually saved for a second or third ghost hunt. The medium has to prove worthy of the itchy straw I inevitably suffer :D

I remeber back in the day when i went ghost hunting. One day I shot one and mounted its head in my living room.
