Gov. Sonny Perdue announced a total of $60,000 in reward money for information
leading to the capture of Brian Nichols (search), also a rape suspect.

Three shot dead at Ga Courthouse

Surely this was the man's first offense, right? I'm betting 50, no, 500 dollars that it's his first time in trouble, and that no liberal system has ever bailed him out before - neither the courts, any school system, nor social welfare service has ever enabled him to prey on others.

And thank Allah his civil rights are intact, I'd be crying if they weren't. The problem, obviously, is that police are too hard on criminals, and they should take guns away from any citizens who could have stopped him on the spot.

Poor Brian Nichols... Down on his luck again. The main thing one should hope is that he gets a good lawyer. The rest is ALL OUR FAULT.

I'll take that bet. I'll bet $500 it's not his first time in trouble.

Okay, obviously American has had a little too much to drink tonight, and I'm just making sure I'm first in line when it comes time for him to have to pay off.

Yes, I am taking what he posted seriously. Didn't see any smilies or irony meters.

FWIW, I predict this guy is dead before the sun goes down Monday (Nichols, not American).

the italics are the clue

Surely you saw that he was being cynical.

Mug-shot in the OP is also a small clue.

(or is that his High School yearbook pic?)

Seems to be conflicting information....but so far nothing to indicate that he was the violent career criminal, welfare thug, or militant black muslim that some folks seem to be implying.

"A background check showed Nichols did not have a violent criminal past. A former computer technician for a logistics subsidiary of Atlanta-based shipping company UPS Inc., he only had been sentenced for driving violations that included driving with a suspended or revoked license, driving without insurance and driving without a valid license plate decal."

"....The foreman also said jurors were impressed by the suspect's appearance and intellect. "He seemed like a pretty logical, intelligent, articulate person."

Nichols' only other criminal record was a misdemeanor count of burglary more than a decade ago.

Nichols briefly attended college at Kutztown University, about 50 miles northwest of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where he played linebacker on the school's Division II football team. He left the school after three semesters, heading for another college in his native South Carolina."

(Note that in some jurisdictions, 'burglary' can be charged for any incident where a part of your body passes through an open or closed window or door...).

Hmm, I googled "brian nichols" atlanta muslim (and several permutations) and came up empty.

Who exactly is implying he's a muslim?

When you use the word seems, is this an indication that you are making stuff up?

FWIW, based on crimresearch's links, I retract my offer to take the bet. :)

From having half-heard a news report at the time I posted, I was under the impression that he had had a history of violent behavior before the crime he's currently on trial for. I appear to have been mistaken.

Well I suppose that American is no longer taking bets, but just address his point about poor Nichols being down on his luck, the man was in court for a very good reason. To wit:

Police Capture Atlanta Slayings Suspect

...

He was accused of bursting into his ex-girlfriend's home with a loaded machine gun, binding her with duct tape and sexually assaulting her over three days. Fulton County District Attorney Paul Howard said Nichols brought a cooler of food in case he was hungry. Nichols claimed the pair had consensual sex.
