North Korea Pics...

Honestly, it didn't seem to me that (physically) the country was in any worse shape than what I saw in Colombia several years ago.
Agree, I was thinking that generally the living conditions looked as good or better than I saw in the countryside of Ecuador or Peru, not to mention Nepal. On the other hand, there's a big difference between a no inner walls, no running water home in the middle of the Peruvian desert, and one in the middle of a nation's capital, surrounded by high rises.

Just sad...

What conditions do you guys speculate would create a cultural revolution in NK? Do you think anyone in there can do that by themselves or would it take severe influence from other countries??

Well, they tried the "Cultural Revolution" bit in China. The results were interesting, but IIRC the process was rather painful.

Can you elaborate a bit? Sounds very interesting.

He tried talking to various groups he ran across. School kids smiled and stayed silent. Dito the teachers. The only interesting group were the tour guides for the monuments (the set up appears to assume that visitors would not speak korean). He managed to get one of them on her own and she was interested in asking questions about the outside world. Can't find the link.
