Found this article about the Ark myth. I don't know if it belongs in the religion, science, or current events forum.

Even if one could fit all the needed animals on the boat, and if those animals could survive the cramped cruise (the study made no estimates regarding the weight of the food or freshwater needed to sustain the ark population), building a seaworthy vessel is another factor.

This looks like sloppy work from 4th year Physics students. In the paper, several creationist websites were listed as references.

Sloppy, indeed.

I'll bet they didn't calculate the stresses the thing would be under the first time it hit a wave either...

The Lord made a bumblebee which should not be able to fly, fly. He formed Adam of dust, and Eve from a rib. Jesus could walk on water and raise the dead.
So what`s the problem here? Even if the ark looked like it shouldnt be able to float, the Lord would allow it to float anyhow.
And if you dont believe in the Lord, then why would you even think there ever was an ark?

Humm...

A huge pile of scrap wood would also float. That doesn't make it seaworthy.

And if you dont believe in the Lord, then why would you even think there ever was an ark?

In which case God could have just removed the wicked people by a miracle, and avoided the whole flood scenario in the first place.

Or suspended them above the water by magic. If the boat needs a miracle to make it work, why is there a boat at all?

And for a good bedtime story to read, google: Chapter 7 - the fossil record.
Enjoy. Yes. The Flood is discussed.

(Scratching my head, thinking)
Yeah!
Why do you think the cliche`d expression `The Lord works in mysterious ways`, came into being?
To answer stuff like you brought up.

The bumblebee should not be able to fly iff it had stationary wings. The idjits who came up with that analysis treated the wing/BB as if it was a fixed wing aircraft mathematically/engineering-wise. The math for a moveable wing shows no trouble at all with the Bb flying. So the lord may swiftly and easily be removed from the equation.

I actually -----> :sdl: at first. But upon thinking about what you said...yes wood can float. It can float where nothing sticks up hardly above the water surface. Not so good if you are along for the ride. You want something slightly better than that.
.
When a kid at the resort, us kids would intentionally sink our Lund row boats. Well, you couldn`t sink them. Not the whole way, anyway. They had solid floatation built into the seats. And if you stayed in the boat, the boat would be underwater, with you above water, about from the chest up, if memory serves me. Not ideal, if out on smooth water for months, lol. And if out on the high seas, you`d be swamped and swallowing water. And you can forget about any long term survival due to your provisions, which obviously would have to be carried in water tight containers.

And for a good bedtime story to read, google: Chapter 7 - the fossil record.

From Chapter 7 on AIG
Just like any other piece of historical evidence, fossils don’t speak for themselves. Evolutionists believe that the fossil record supports their theory of the slow and gradual evolution of life from amoebas to astronauts.

Little Boy: Mommy, I want to be an astronaut!

Mom: You can if you evolve son.

Little Boy: (Scratches head) Huh?

The Ark needed to carry two of each of the 6.5 million terrestrial species for a year, and there is no geological evidence of a global flood.

Enjoy your fairy tale delusions and fantasies if you believe the Ark story. Your mommy up in the sky is still protecting you so everything is OK.

It would seem the notion that bumblebees shouldn't be able to fly is more based on the limitations of the ideas of flight among some humans - it's the exception that tests the 'rule'.

It's actually more based on the limitations of being able to read.
The mechanism of bumblebee flight is well understood and published about.

As for the ark, the discussion's been had a few years ago. The stresses on the wood of a ship of those dimensions would have been so great that an empty ark, on a calm sea, would be reduced to splinters in a manner of minutes. Assuming it didn't collapse under it's own weight during construction.

Yep. When I look at the snopes take on this story they deem it to be an 'urban legend'.

Thanks!

Actually, it needed to carry seven of each clean beast and two of the unclean... Not sure which is which but I'm guessing that ups the numbers quite a bit...
