I would suggest that we try to go later in the year, as warmer weather is better for traveling in much of the US. If people are going to come to the US from overseas, they might very well want to spend some time traveling around. I would certainly recommend, for example, that people who have never traveled around the western US, especially foreigners, see some of the sites, many of which, like Yellowstone, are inaccessable in the winter, although a reasonable road trip from Las Vegas.
Plus, many here find summer travel more convenient because of school schedules, etc. Also, warmer destinations tend to be cheaper to travel to in the summer. New Orleans, for example, would be a great future site for TAM, and it's a lot cheaper in the summer.
Maybe it's not practical to think of the conference as a vacation opportunity, but this is kind of a friendly social group, and there seems to be a lot more interest in spending time together than your normal conference.
