Newbie to TAM3

For what it's worth, last January, DeBergerac and I walked the distance from The Tuscany (the hotel of the meeting) to The Hilton (for the Star Trek experience) along Paradise Road. According to the map that's a little under 2.5 miles (believe me, it looked closer on the map, which is why we decided to walk there ). Anyway, I don't think it took us more than half an hour to get there.

The downside (if you could call it that) of staying at The Tuscany was that the shortest route to the strip put you right at the big intersection with Flamingo, so I ended up choosing a side of the strip to 'crawl', then made it half way to the end and then had to turn back so I wouldn't be late for other activities. And Sunday's screw-up at the car rental place ended up in me taking a free busride to the airport and hop on the (much cheaper than a taxi) shuttlebus, which among others passed Excalibur. I should have stepped off there and checked it out, but being the lazy sod that I am, I got off at Harrah's instead. As a result I only visited two Hotels inside, Ceasars and Paris, that's all I had time for.

So that's why I am taking all this extra time out before TAM this time, hoping to catch more interesting sights now :)

Of course, I am arriving on the 11th and will have a van, so if you ask me verrryyy nicely if may be prevailed upon to pick you up...;) ;) ;)
Really? I guess 11 p.m. isn't that late at Vegas, so I guess I wouldn't be putting you too much out of the way.

I could hold up a sign "Hutch" and have everyone stare weirdly at me :D

So, what can I bring as a bribe? I see you like peanuts, but maybe I could sneak something more "high class" off the plane, like almonds :D Seriously though, Anything Canadian you'd like? A shirt, a pin, a mug?

I would be very grateful to see a friendly face rather than have a cabbie try to take advantage of my naivete and drive me on a round-about route that would cost $40 or something. Well, I am afraid of stuff like that happening. I'm not exactly the type people fear angering.

I think the main question is: how tired will you be (it's not that big a time difference for you, so that's less of an issue), but people will still be doing all kinds of things you might like to be part of :)

One thing to warn people about... if you're going outside at night, you may want to wear more than just a T-shirt. It can get rather cool once the sun goes down.
Wimp. ;)

Did I say cool? I meant bring along a bathingsuit to wear at night... maybe bring along a freezer full if ice...

I'll have a car, too.

Arrangements can be made.

Back off man, I saw her first.....;) :D :p

Eos, just PM me the arrival flight number and time. I'll have a sign when you clear security saying EOS. Also note my picture on the TAM3 site.

Well, to save money I got some pretty crazy tickets for my plane trip. I leave Calgary at 1:30 pm, and get to vegas at 11:00 pm.

I will be on the planes for about 6 hours, so I think some naps will be part of the plan since I hate flying. Um, yeah... I'm going from Western Canada to Eastern USA, and then to Western USA. Not saving time at all, but money, sighs.

So, I will be rested and probably bored outta my mind by the time I get to Vegas. So, what's everybody doing on Wednesday night :D I'll need some perking up.

What should I make my "Hutch" sign out of :D

Well, I saw Hutch first...and Loon's offer may be snatched up quick here by somebody else who's never been to Vegas before.

And I am really glad somebody offered. I've never been so far from home and am relieved that I will see a friendly face in such a strange place. Airports are stressful, and I have no idea what to expect, especially at 11 p.m. ...so knowing that I won't get lost from the Airport for sure is calming thought.

Eos, I'll be there from the 12th if you're at a loose end............
If you've nothing to do on the Thursday morning, PM SkepticScott - he's organising the organisers if you see what I mean and may well need help. I'm down for that and manning the reception goods area from 12 'til 5.30.

Oh yes. And I have paid for the workshop, a big motivator for my going. I hope to be volunteering on Friday for sure.

And hey, It's Kitten's birthday that week too.
