New Horizons at Pluto

Announcement coming tomorrow; principal investigator Stern:

“This world is alive,” he said. “It has weather, it has hazes in the atmosphere, active geology.” Mr Stern said NASA would be releasing new data and images this Friday (Australian time) that will change everything we know about the solar system. “NASA won’t let me tell you what we’re going to tell you on Thursday. It’s amazing,” he said.

That photo does not prove that if you were standing on the surface of Pluto you would see a blue sky. If you take a similar photo of Earth you would see a red ring. Does this then prove that standing on Earth shows a red sky? I think standing on Pluto you would see a blue sunset.

The folks at NASA know all of this so I must be in error. Where is my error?

No error. Hyperbole on the part of the folks making the press release. The atmosphere is too thin to see blue skies during the day. At best, you'd see a blue haze at sunrise and sunset.
