I've just got a computer from my dad's work, which comes with no software.

I need a video driver and a network driver, but I don't know what type of cards are in it. I've opened it up and found various numbers and things, but direct google searches don't work, and I can't find any helpful sites.

I need to know the manufacturer and card type to download the correct driver.

Anyone know of any useful websites?

Thanks.

When you say "No software", do you mean literally that?
ie- No Operating System?

Presumably there's a BIOS?

Does it boot up at all?

It's not a VAX is it?:D

Yes, there's a BIOS etc., but no, it doesn't have an operating system. I'm going to install this but first I need to put the CD drive from a different computer in this one. I thought I could save some time by looking for numbers etc. while I've got the tower open.

If you can get an OS on it and get onto the internet, go to
belarc.com and download the free belarc advisor. It tells you the serial numbers and names of the computers guts.

Belarc is good, I agree.

If you have no modem or net access (Which you clearly do, D'uh!)and you install a Windows OS, try running MSINFO or MSINFO32. This and the Device Manager should tell you much of what you need to know.
