New Burzynski Petition Up...This is the big one.

Hey, all. I have been working for the last several months on a project to bring Burzynski to the attention of Congress. On the heels of last week's loosening on the ban on antineoplastons, the Skeptics for the Protection of Cancer Patients decided that we needed to take our case directly to Congress and the FDA. We are working with a lobbyist in Washington to make sure that this happens, and we want to give them something awesome to plonk down on the representatives' desks. Please, please sign this petition. Pro-Burzynski petitions (typically featuring children dying of cancer) easily garner 100,000 signatures or more, so we really need every lover of science to step up and sign and share the petition.

Wouldn't a real petition be more effective instead of a slacktivism petition?
 
Honestly, I've had a bitch of a time getting people motivated to do ANYTHING, so much so that the FDA blinked last week and told patients that they could have ANP if they could find someone to administer it and an IRB to sign off on it. So I'm going full slacktivist and making it as easy as possible. We have a lobbyist right now who is putting together a petition from professionals to one of the agencies involved. That will be direct pressure where it counts and will have some weight. This is the other prong of the current offensive, a low investment version that the Skeptics for the Protection of Cancer Patients will deliver personally to the Hill.

You might meet with more success if you explained what it is all about. You don't say what or who Burzynski is or was in your OP.

Burzynski is an alt-med guy that made up a cancer cure involving something he calls "anti-neoplastons." It's completely useless, obviously.

The petition is about convincing the FDA to cease his trials and investigate how the FDA even allowed them to continue after decades of no success and many acts of misconduct and fraud.

Good start. Can you link to something? Not that we don't just take your word for it, but we don't just take your word for it.
 
Burzynski isn't merely hawking a cancer cure. He's doing so under the veneer of scientific medicine - specifically, in the form of a clinical trial, which has been in the first "exploratory" stage for decades without any gathered results ever even submitted to move the trial to the next stage. Despite this he asserts the efficacy of the medicine as a treatment in private communications with cancer patients, and charges them many thousands of dollars to participate in his "trial".

This apparent ability to legally practice an unproven thousands-dollars treatment as "medicine", under the guise of a never-ending clinical trial, is a shocking regulatory oversight, a danger to public health frankly, and absolutely needs to be eliminated.

Signed and forwarded to a couple of dozen other ex-pat Americans living over here in Asia with a request to spread to their own networks. Don't know if it'll garner much action that way, but I figured it was the least I could do.

I did a massive amount of reading on Burzynski a few years ago. This rather disgusts me, what he's getting away with.
