Need geometry problems

And I do have to start reading "Gravity's Rainbow again.
I 've just located my copy in my library, because of this discussion! I have to locate the "companion" now because without it I feel that I lose the beauty of the encrypted messages. From the title of the book to its last page it is filled with hidden meanings.:)

You are right about your teacher. Without the proper tutor you cannot approach maths.

Interesting. :)

People say that in 9 out of the 10 cases of the students that they were not strong in Maths at school there is a teacher to blame.

....

And some of us are fortunate to run into the good teacher before the BAD teacher. The good teacher was in 3rd grade (Ft. Ord, CA)... the bad teacher was in 6th grade (I think in retrospect his problem was that he did not understand math too well and just stuck to the speed add/subtract/devide/multply tests --- a total waste of a year: and this was the one private school I went to! Escuela Campo Alegre in Caracas).

Fortunately 7th grade was in Minnesota (Portland Jr. High in Bloomington -- near where the Mall of America is now!) with a self-paced program to get through the boring stuff early and into the fun stuff faster!

Anyway... geometry is part of the fun stuff! It really helps to see the relationships by drawing with a straight edge and compass. Like draw a circle with the compass... then place the point of the compass on the circle... draw an arc from one side to the next... place the point of the compass on where the arc intercects the circle and do it again... do this until you get the 6-petaled flower. Draw a line connecting the points on the circle (chords). And on and on... after a while you can find some of the relationships that get defined by equations.

I have no idea what "Gravity's Rainbow" is... but I guess I'll just have to look it up at my library... Okay, just did... looks odd, I'll wait until winter, right now I'm slogging through Oliver Sacks books.

You know, all the details he mentions, about the BBC's shows, the theatrical plays and stuff are real, they have double-checked them with the newspapers of the era!! Pynchon is a genuine "paranoid".

I noticed that when I looked up stuff reading "Lot 49" (the only one I've finished, I should mention). Had never heard of Thurn and Taxis before then, but a Belgian friend knew all about them.

Don't get me started with Pynchon Find the "companion" or " guide" to "Gravity's Rainbow". It's easier than catching up with Maths.

I want to learn Maths for my own edification as well, and to keep ahead of my kids. :)
