MYTHBUSTERS!!!!

"MythBusters" is, simply put, one of my favorite shows on television. Funny thing is, a while back I was thinking that they'd be perfect guests for the next TAM, and apparently, so has the JREF. After missing the previous TAM due to lack of funds, I wanted number four to be the one I finally went to. If a deal is struck with the MB team, you might very well count me in right now.

I'd like to say that nothing similar entered my mind prior to having read your post, Philip, but I hate lying.

Seriously, though, if I had to choose between either Kari or Scottie, the answer would be easy: whichever one would have me.

Sigh. I hope we haven't scared the entire MythBusters team away now.

What I'd like to see:

Someone at TAM4 goes up to the mike and addresses the Mythbusters, prefacing the question with: "This is a question for the smart one."

TOTALLY!!!!!

what a great idea!

Did you see the personal flying machine they built? It didn't fly...but wouldn't it have been cool if it had!

Yes! I watched that episode last night. It did not surprise me that "plans" sold on the Internet were garbage, or that the machine would not able to carry a human. But what really surprised me was that it could not lift itself off the ground with no load.

I also was fascinated by the way that Adam made the cowlings.

My thoughts on this show have to do more with their investigation of Pyramid Power and how Adam doesn't want to investigate any more woo claims.

But I think it would be great if they would film a segment or two at the TAM with debunking something like fire walking.

Maybe it's a Rorshac thing.

If women are nuts, and I'm nuts too...I guess I'm in good company. ;)

Well, you did hear why Leo the Lion was in psychotherapy, didn't you?

He was in Roar Shock!

He was in Roar Shock!

Well, that brings us to your avatar, in which I see a rather evil looking clown coveting the balloon of a small child who has been distracted by the jumping up of his small black dog who was trying to catch the drips from the strawberry ice cream cone the child's holding.

Now what does that say about YOU?

Kitten does all sorts of weird things to her racing kayaks to make them light, but strong.

Then when she punches a hole in them she duct tapes them.:(

It's not comforting to see someone going down class 3 rapids with a duct taped bow.

Anyway, I'm sure she'd want to try what Adam did.

Right now she's doing stuff with silly putty and lasers. Did you know scientists really do yell, "Fire the lasers!" in a fake German accent like in Austin Powers?

Mythbusters only confirms my belief that scientists have all the fun. I have to agree with not testing the woo. I think the Mythbusters want things where the outcome is in question. To them woo would be boring, even if it would be educational to the world. You can tell, if it doesn't interest them, forget it.

Should be noted that at my school, 3 of the middle schoolers have attempted to make their own paintball special effects using sparklers and fireworks. The whole "don't try this at home" thing doesn't work. One of the kids set his dads worktable on fire (it had a lot of sawdust...hello????)

Still, I'm tempted to try it with sparklers......

What is there to "debunk" about firewalking? All it is, is a rather showy self-empowerment technique for people who need artificial demonstrations that they are able to cope with life. Done properly, it's no more dangerous than standing in the middle of the railroad tracks when no train is coming. Nevertheless, firewalking does have a certain amount of validity:

The Skeptic's Dictionary

"However, even armed with this knowledge, it still takes courage to firewalk. When Michael Shermer of Skeptic magazine did a firewalk for The Unexplained television program, he had the knowledge but the fear was obviously still there.

I don't know why everyone likes Scottie so much. It's all about Kari. B-movie star, knife thrower, mural artist? She's nigh perfect!

Yea... She even used to sculpt D&D models... a geeks dream! ;)

They have a Mythbusters Marathon today it seems on discovery channel, I've never seen an episode of it though so i decided to watch it after reading this thread and OMG....

BEST SHOW EVER!

They just set ablaze the inside of a house by filling it up with tons of gas from "bug bombers" and igniting a fire within!

gah! these dudes have the coolest job.

edit: Holy crap! Has anyone seen the exploding jawbreaker episode?! I'm never letting my kid get within a 20-foot radius of those things.

They're what ya call, experts

Mythbusters at TAM4?? Damn I wish I could attend that one. Well I wish I could have gotten to all of the Amazing Meetings.
