Cont: Musk, SpaceX and future of Tesla II

The point is that NVidia does have a real product to sell and all the AI companies chasing rainbows need it. There is a bubble but if there is one company associated with the bubble that will survive it’s NVidia. Keeping your money there is less crazy than taking it out to put into an AI company.
Not when they're using their money that they need to sell their goods to their biggest clients.

It's at South Sea company levels with them at the moment. They're using money they can't afford to fuel a bubble that's going to destroy their income streams.

Remember that though NVidia is leaning pretty heavily into AI these days, they also have a strong base in crypto. If the AI bubble bursts, their crypto market could keep them aloft.
The fact that they're using their money to sell products developed for crypto to LLM copmanies should tell you how much utility is in crypto for Nvidia. They've pivoted from the crypto chimaera to the next one already.

crypto mining isn't as profitible as it used to be, and that's not likely to improve as it shifts from bitcoin rewards to fees imo

Indeed, Nvidia's hardware is adept at solving any problem that can be "linearized" (i.e., expressed as tensors). This includes problems that I need to solve in engineering and science. Those problems have nothing to do with AI.

robots and ai will make money irrelevant says the guy that needed a trillion dollar payday to build the stuff
...As touched on before, Musk's claim sounds effectively identical to the promise of actual communism. To be clear, this certainly does sound nice, at least in moderation. It's just that, like those who have perverted the promise of communism into the State Communism that deserves great criticism, Musk is remarkably untrustworthy about what he'll actually do with power. No, I take that back. He's remarkably trustworthy in that he's certain to abuse power if he has the chance, for the nth time.

20 years ago my world was a lot smaller and i paid a lot less attention to things. so maybe that's the problem, but to me it seems like there's more scamming, conning grifters out there than ever. and nobody has done it better than musk. he comes up with a tech, says it'll do all this stuff, and it never works and he keeps promising soon. now he's got robots that'll just make it so no one works and they'll solve all crimes, ai that'll drive a car and make it so no one works, colonies on mars where we can all go to escape the climate change he's going to solve. he's a genius that's going to save the world, soon.

but it never happens. in the meantime he's made an awful lot of money for himself. and what he did with helping getting trump elected and poking around in the government. we don't even know how badly he's abused his power.

hey roger, you'd know better than anyone. what are musk's greatest charitable deeds?

Thinking about it, Musk reminds me a lot of our dear departed interlocutor here Gaetan!

The most likely outcome is that AI and robots make everyone wealthy. In fact, far wealthier than the richest person on Earth 👀

By this, I mean that people will have access to everything from medical care that is superhuman to games that are far more fun that what exists today.

We do need to make sure that AI cares deeply about truth and beauty for this to be the probable future.

He also sounds like the optimists at the start of the industrial revolution, a worker would be able to do their work in a day, that would give them 5 days of leisure, 5 days of leisure and not 6 because of course no one worked on the Sabbath.. apart from your servants and other people not blessed with wealth. Of course that did not happen and as long as we are in the thrall of consumerism it won't.
