Cont: Musk buys Twitter II

more musk buffoonery on social media. flawed understanding of history leading him to put his foot in his mouth

He's also been going on about Olof Palme, and how he ruined Sweden. Strange, the man was assassinated in 1986, so Elon must be alluding to some top-secret ruining, because as far as I can tell, we're not ruined yet, almost 40 years later. A little the worse for wear, certainly, but not ruined.

But all the little brown-shirts are elated that Elon, the patron saint of the alt-right incels here, agrees with them, since it is of course immigrants he's talking about. Not that there were that many back in the 80's, but apparently it's still Palme's fault...

Your location is actually editable in your profile, so you can put in that field whatever you like. By default it used my location derived from my iPhone because apparently I had location services turned on for the app, but I could change it, and it shows something different now.

I doubt too many MAGA influencers are changing their profile location to foreign countries though. I bet most of the accounts are monetized, and don't want their real location known. Milking the MAGA fan base is their livelihood.

You can set your location in your profile to anything you want.
That's not what is shown as location in a post header.
Location is displayed from ISP.
Anyone getting round it by using a VPN gets a shield icon with an exclamation mark in it next to location to show it's unreliable.

Bangladesh and Nigeria are not really likely places to set your VPN location to.

right, is the alternative explanation that there’s organically a bunch of pro maga accounts in these countries?

obviously not. i think it’s fair to ask for evidence whether or not they’re paid or simply farming engagement for ad revenue though. i’d guess it’s a mix of both

and i’d look at regulating social media tech companies at some point. obviously this kind of stuff isn’t good

As was pointed out on James O'Brien's show, yesterday they tend be be from poor countries where the relatively small amounts that can be earned will make a big difference to someone's life.

And honestly I have nothing against them doing it. Let the MAGAs give all their money to people that can do more with it.
