Multiple People Shot, Undetonated Devices Found in Brooklyn Subway

Hm .. and yet again, so much publicity for the shooter and his motive. So far black on white racism attacks were pretty rare, but event like this might trigger copycats.

You mean like, officially?

Were all of the victims white in this case?

I mean cases where the shooter is open about it. As for the victims, is it relevant ?

It is relevant if we are trying to classify this as a racially motivated crime. Is there something to suggest that it was?

His social media ?
Looking at the footage, it seems most people on the train were white. The situation was quite chaotic, doesn't seem like he was carefully picking victims.
All people bleeding I saw were white though.

Another interesting thing is the reports say he emptied 3 glock magazines. That's a lot of rounds, no matter what exact model it was. Yet nobody is dead ? Lot of people on the platform clearly have leg woulds. Is it possible he was aiming for the legs ?
But then, people hit harder would probably stayed in the train anyway.

According to the criminal complaint courtesy of NBC, a frequent target of the suspects most recent social media rants was homeless people on the NYC subways. At one point he complained that there were so many homeless people on the train he was riding that he "couldn't even stand", and seemed to criticize the new NY mayor for not doing enough about it.

CNN describes his social media posting history generally as being filled with misogynist and racist rants against employers and "broad societal and racial groups that he appeared to hate", and indicating a preoccupation with thoughts of committing acts of violence against these perceived enemies. Sounds like a real winner.

The oddest thing to me is that the shooter seemed to have vested opinions about New York City politics and social policies, which is just very strange because he lived in Wisconsin and there hasn't yet been revealed any real connection between him and the city, other than his deciding for some reason to go there and shoot a bunch of people. Maybe there'll turn out to be some actual connection in the future.

A bizarre finish to a bizarre series of acts by a man who is definitely mentally ill. From Associated Press:
Police had urged the public to help find him, releasing his name and photo and even sending a cellphone alert before they got a tip Wednesday. The tipster was James, calling to say he knew he was wanted and police could find him at a McDonald’s in Manhattan’s East Village neighborhood, two law enforcement officials said. They weren’t authorized to discuss the ongoing investigation and spoke on condition of anonymity. James was gone when officers arrived, but they soon spotted him on a busy corner nearby, Chief of Department Kenneth Corey said. Associated press news story

There is a passerby's video in the AP story of a handcuffed Frank James being put into a police car.

Shooter made numerous video threats as Youtuber 'Prophet of Truth 88"

The 62-year-old, who New York authorities are actively searching for, made videos predicting a race war between Black and white people. He also made threats and derogatory statements against Black people, white people, Jewish people and Mexicans.

In his latest uploaded video on April 11, 2022, James said that he has wanted to watch people die and that he has been through a lot in his life.

I guess the FBI was right. Hard core racists are a growing threat to public safety.

So this guy has a YouTube channel? Didn't click it, but I gather his nomenclature for racial groups is a tad less than fraternal. Doesn't YT have some kind of hate speech detector bot that flags and bans hate speechers?

I read a New York Times article about James' lifestyle which I'm quoting and linking below.
“He’s been on his own all his life, and I haven’t had that much contact with him,” [his sister] said. “He moves from city to city.” One of the last of those cities was Milwaukee, where it was unclear what Mr. James did for work. He described himself as a driver, including for the delivery app Instacart. (Instacart did not reply to several requests for comment.) He seems to have been more focused on his YouTube account...In a video posted on March 18, Mr. James said he picked up a Penske van and was planning to leave Milwaukee the following day. Two days later, shooting a video from the road, he explained that he had packed up his apartment, emptied his storage unit and set out early on a trip to Philadelphia, where he was planning to move.

He stopped for the night in Fort Wayne, Ind., and said he would stop in a town outside of Pittsburgh next, then Harrisburg, Pa., and Philadelphia, which he would reach by Tuesday. Mr. James said in that video that he planned to spend six days in a hotel and then transfer to a short-term rental. Times article link

The bizarre just got more bizarre. Mr. James seems to have had plenty of cash at his disposal. Where did he get it? That seems to be unknown. Was he receiving some kind of disability? Was he earning a decent amount of money via his YouTube channels? Seems hard to find out.

Also odd. In his videos he rants, but he apparently also comes across as a fairly personable guy. When arrested he didn't resist. In fact, he had called the police to tell them where they could find him. On the train when he tossed the first smoke grenade, and a rider objected, James reportedly apologized. (Only then he also began shooting people.)

Below he seems to have a crooked smile as NYPD detectives help him into a police car. ("Watch your head.")

You're already implying it, but there are obviously double standards here. I suspect this will again not be racism but "mental illness", and probably at least some will blame his mental illness on being the victim of white racism.

Racism has been redefined lately so that only white people can be guilty of it, after all.

Uber seems to have faced a backlash because, as typical after horrific events it seems, the company activated surge pricing in the area of Brooklyn affected by the shooting and train stoppage. After mass complaints on social media they deactivated the rate hike.
Surge activation is automated, based on volume of requests. Or at least, it was when I was a driver. It has to be manually deactivated, which appears to be what happened.

Prejudice + power ring a bell?

If you wanna back up your statement have at it:

Racism has been redefined lately so that only white people can be guilty of it, after all.
Like I said, I used to believe in all of that Fox News crap too. "The white man is being persecuted!" Then I realized how baseless that is. Just fear-mongering, which is all the ammo they have left.

Source: I'm a 54 year old white man living in America. I used to be afraid too. Then one day, through critical analysis, I realized how stupid it was.
