I'm going to be spending more time with the 9/11 conspiracy stuff... as I do, I'm (slowly) updating my website and adding stuff.

One of the main reasons I'm working on all this is because I help maintain and improve 9/11 articles on Wikipedia. On the English article, I need to work on providing sources and work on the "Background history of the attacks" subarticle and write a one paragraph summary of that for the main 9/11 article. I think I can handle this, but might need some help with sources and people reviewing my work (and of course anyone can edit and help directly).

As you may know, there's not just Wikipedia in English, but versions in 100+ languages. You're probably all familiar with the English article, but from here there are links on the left side of the page to the same article in other languages.

Some of the other languages don't look so bad, but I took a peak at the Italian article on 9/11, and it's not good. Much of the "Responsibility" section talks about Osama not wanted by the FBI (because of the poster), and about (since debunked) BBC reports of hijackers still alive. Basic facts like the timeline was wrong and I fixed that, but I don't have time deal with the conspiracy theories there at this point. May try to do something with it sooner or later. If anyone knows Italian and can work with it, that would be awesome!

What's worse is (not surprisingly) the Arabic article. It talks about objects without windows crashing into the WTC, and questions whether not it really was a plane that crashed into the Pentagon, and has a big conspiracy theories section which extensively uses prisonplanet and other such sites for sources. The article really doesn't mention Flight 93, WTC7, or other such details. The conspiracy theories section is not realistically going to be deleted, but a good rebuttal of common theories and general sourcing of the article would help. My Arabic skills are basic, but I'll try to work with it. I have started discussion on that article's "talk" page.

That's where I'm at now with all this. I think my work is cut out for me. May need some assistance here finding sources and material to use. Just a heads up at this point or if people can look over other language articles, that would be really helpful.

Good luck.

I do not find it surprising that PrisonPlanet is giving the enemy comfort.

The main issue is that a lot of the conspiracy stuff is not confined to the conspiracy theories section of the articles.

The Arabic article has three (or four) sections:
* Introduction (above the first heading) - acceptable the way it is
* WTC (goes right into the 911: In Plane Site stuff which is rejected even by a significant portion of the "truth" movement)
* Pentagon (again, much of this is rejected by the "truth" movement)
* Conspiracy theories (at least this is labelled as such, but is entirely one-sided and biased)

I think at least some of the bizarre, extreme theories can be deleted or debunked.

I've been thinking about how to approach this. I think it's important to get the English Wikipedia articles in best shape they can be, with excellent references, and then deal with Arabic and other languages. I do know a little bit of Arabic (extremely basic), but will be taking Arabic courses this summer (no I don't work for the CIA or anything else suspicious). In a few months or maybe later in the year, I might be competent enough to be able to help out on the Arabic version of Wikipedia. That means not only helping with the 9/11 article, but working on other, less controversial articles and translating material between the two languages, and making use of Arabic languages sources. The good thing about a "wiki" is that others can always help me with my Arabic grammar.

As for the English-language articles, numerous good, reliable references are important and help make articles stable and minimize problems. If possible, the goal is for each article to become a "featured article", which is the designation given to the highest quality articles. The articles can be mirrored on my website, where they can be stable (no vandalism!), along with more pictures, added details, etc. and hopefully be useful.

Coming here to JREF, even just to read the threads, has been invaluable in working on Wikipedia articles. When someone inserts something dubious (like the BBC video of WTC7), I can check here and it most likely is already being discussed. :) For the most part, just reading the posts is sufficient. But, I think I'm getting far enough along with some articles that I could now use comments, feedback, suggestions, and help finding sources.

Would it work best if I brought one article at a time here for such feedback and help with finding sources?

Given the deletion rate for articles on the less noteable aspects of 9/11 CTs yes.

Ahem, sorry, couldn't resist. :p

Best of luck with your work tidying up the Wikis. I don't envy you the task ahead of you. Wish I could help, but my knowledge of other languages are only good for getting me slapped in the face by attractive young women.

Cheers,
TGHO
