Marijuana

I would be interesting in knowing the breakdown of who goes to jail for dealing in pot. I don't know if there's any information on that, but I would suspect the following:

(1.) The majority of those in prison for dealing are minorities.

(2.) The majority were arrested either as part of a drug sweep, or were caught by their own stupidity.

(3.) The majority are doing their hardest stretches on their first arrests, and are incarcerated with hardened criminals, who are more than willing to teach their tricks of the trade to the newbies.

(4.) I could be complete wrong on all previous points.

I'm right there with AS. I've often stated that the most glaringly obvious double standard today is that you can load up on booze but not light up a joint.

Now see, that there is called logic, and has no place in American jurisprudence. We live by majority rule, not by logic.

The obvious flaw in your silly statement is that many fine older Americans like to drink, but only longhairs and hippies and commies smoke pot.

I don't like the kind of people who smoke pot, so putting them in jail for smoking pot makes perfect sense.

I swear to Ed I have heard every one of those lines.

I love to razz my mom about this (she being a boomer and me a gen-xer) but by now isn't it those long haired mary-janer's who are now in charge of the country, and indeed close to retiring?

Or maybe pot is more of a "youth culture" thing than it is a "hippy" or 60's generation thing?

I will say most of the "pot heads" that I know are happy, well adjusted adults, who can put up strong evidence that I would be better off physically if I gave up my martinis and rob-roys for mother nature.

All I have to say is that anyone that is against legalizing pot for terminally ill patients obviously never saw their parents die from cancer.

It is no fun to watch people die because they can't eat, MJ does improve appetite and nausea.

(Sounds weird the way you phrased it, DD.)

Watched my grandmother die from liver cancer. Forgive me if I don't go into details, but I would have greatly appreciated it if someone were willing to give her SOMETHING to control the nausea and pain she suffered in her last days.

Of course, we can't do that. We can't prescribe powerful narcotics, because someone who's dying might become addicted to them. We can't prescribe pot, because someone who's dying and toking on a little ganja might get hooked, and move on to harder drugs.

But booze is okay.

Right.

Someone want to give me a rational explanation for this?
