Letterman scandal

If they were odds are one would have sued years ago.

Actually, it's not that simple. For example, the women he slept with could have been willing participants (ie, he did not harass them), but if they did it to advance their careers, and if he indeed helped out their careers, then that could still count as sexual harassment, and would still be illegal, whether or not it was completely consensual.

I'm not saying this happened, we really don't know. Maybe it was just mutual attraction (shudder). But the fact that it was employees he was sleeping with does in fact raise questions, both legal and moral, questions which we do not have the answer to at this point.

It's a bit of a hollow confession really isn't it? Pay $2, and be vulnerable to further exploitation or fess up and go to the police and make a joke out of it. It must have took him all of 30 seconds to ring his partner and tell her he can't keep it in his pants.

I am just watching the segment on the news over here, he comes across as insincere and a bit of a prick to be honest. His partner must love his tactful handling of the situation.

I can understand that, actually. What I care about is the blackmail--since I had already been thinking about it.

Yeah, that is a little interesting. I like that he went after the extortionist legally, cleverly pretending to take the bait of the money. Whatever else you think of the gap-toothed liberal horndog comedian, it must be admitted he's nobody's dumby ;)

Are we sure it was all women?? And what did he mean by "the creepy stuff"?? B&D, S&M or anyone of dozens of fetishes, or all of them? You know about those quiet Indiana farm boys. Wait a minute, "farm boys"??? Sheep, goats????

How do you know she didn't already know? How do you know she didn't care?

How do you know she didn't have a boyfriend?

There are other marriages aside from the vanilla, monogamous 1950s husband-and-wife plus a kid arrangement.

Chris Rock says men are as faithful as their options.

My advice: Be with someone with few options.

If Chris Rock said that and I was a woman in a relationship with him that I thought was monogamous, I'd immediately conclude that my monogamy assumption was wrong.

Do we really have any idea yet of when these affairs occurred? There are several assumptions here about his foul behavior when engaging in sex with his employees. Without any other information, we can all make assumptions. Here's mine:

Perhaps he had sex with several female employees over the years. He engaged in affairs while in the longtime relationship with the woman he has since married. He had, prior to this incident, admitted these affairs to his significant other. She forgave him, married him, and they had a child.

The above is a total assumption as well. But in that light, he could be a rather reformed and honest husband to his wife. We really don't know (although we might get a hint if his wife divorces him.)

Either way, I have to agree that Letterman's sex life doesn't really concern me. It's not like I was watching Letterman because I considered him to be a beacon of morality. I wasn't looking to him for advice on how to live my life. The laughs are enough for me.

I think you're on to something.

Maybe, he took stupid pet tricks to a new level.

Wow, Dave's ratings must really be tanking to resort to a publicity stunt like this.

Wow, Dave's ratings must really be tanking to resort to a publicity stunt like this.

Letterman's ratings have, lately, been stronger than ever, experiencing a surge against a weak Conan O'Brien show that recently replaced Leno in that time slot.

This was no stunt.

I'm a Letterman fan, but sadly, these "revelations" come as no real surprise.

I agree that they should come as no real surprise. But, I would reiterate that I never looked at Letterman as a role model of morality.

On the news this morning, the questions was asked about whether or not he might get a free pass; that he would be treated more harshly for this revelation if he was a religious pastor or a politician.

I imagine he will be treated less harshly for this "revelation". But, I don't really think there's any double-standard here. Many politicians... and certainly the religious leaders... often more or less preach about morality. I personally don't remember David Letterman ever preaching to me about the sanctity of marriage or the sins on infidelity.

I'll take the slut who is honest over the hypocritical bible-thumper any day. :D

Candy is dandy, liquor is quicker, vice is nice, incest is best.:D:D

Does he really just think of women as receptacles?

Maybe not all, but most for him? Why marry something you only consider a receptacle? She must be something different to him. He referred to his behavior as creepy himself. It's just a character flaw I guess. He's a late night comedian. Who cares what he does?

The guy who blackmailed him was an Emmy-award winning producer, making the blackmail absolutely retarded. Because sleeping with coworkers is stupid, but blackmailing someone is a crime.
