The Germans, in case you haven't noticed, haven't suffered much from this horrible prestige gap that keeps you up nights. In fact, they've got one of the sturdiest economies in Europe (until lately, that is, but that give you the chance to blame their recession on bad nazi press).

Pretending bad things have not been done, and that 'adequate measures' are being taken will not make the problems go away. Quite the reverse, actually.

The Abu Ghraibs atrocities were anomalies - investigated before the details were released to the public. There is no evidence there was any kind of administrative plan at work here, and several of the guards themselves have said they weren;t instructed to abuse prisoners.
US troops raped girls in Okinawa in the 90s; should we prosecute Clinton for their acts? Should state governors be held responsible for any criminal act performed by a prison guard? Should Kofi Annan be hauled in for questioning about abuses by UN troops?

A military judge ruled Monday that the top American commanders currently involved in the Iraq war will have to submit to questioning by lawyers for two servicemen charged in the Abu Ghraib prison abuse case. The defense lawyers said they would show that the most senior military and civilian officials approved interrogation methods that violated the Geneva Conventions.

I'm just watching ABC news about the documents released today, and picked this from the ABC website:

The Justice Department on Tuesday disavowed a memo that appeared to justify the use of torture in the war on terror and argued that the president's wartime powers superseded anti-torture laws and treaties.

The 50-page memo issued to the White House on Aug. 1, 2002, will be replaced because it contained overbroad and irrelevant advice, senior Justice Department officials said, speaking on condition of anonymity.

In these times, I wouldn't rule out any connection to the administration.

I am not sure why people are so dismayed about stuff like this.
"Nice arab" have been ransoming body parts for money for years now.

After a "freedom fighter" dies and goes to allah and leaves the body parts scattered all over. Arabs have been taking body parts and even wiping up blood off the street to later ransom back to the families for years now. ( Jewish burial law states that you must be buried whole or you an not go to heaven)

This is mostly done as a crime of opportunity by kids and women. So why would it surprise ANYONE that the men would think it's OK to cut a guys head off?????????

Trust me, it's not because he's disagreeing with me, plenty of people disagree with me on issues I take very seriously and I have no desire to punch them.

But comparing religious nutcases who cut the heads off non-combatants and a nation which pursues a war against such nutcases bent on harming its people is downright revolting.

I'm being completely honest that if this was said to my face with the sincerity 'evildave' has expressed, said person would likely get punched.
