Karl Rove's comments

I'm guessing that's jest but . . .who would write the test?
A committee, obviously. Something like the Committee for Public Sanity, say.

Seriously, I am serious. Universal suffrage provides legions of recruits for the Black Arts of persuaders like Rove, legions that can overwhelm the thoughtful minority. That's why democracy in practice - aka politics, a grubby business - is so divorced from Democracy in principle.

I'm really surprised people aren't focusing on the statement I think is even more offensive:

'Has there ever been a more revealing moment this year?' Mr. Rove asked. 'Let me just put this in fairly simple terms: Al Jazeera now broadcasts the words of Senator Durbin to the Mideast, certainly putting our troops in greater danger. No more needs to be said about the motives of liberals.'

So liberals want our troops to die.

This disgusts me, but I begrudgingly admit that Karl Rove is a smarter guy than I am. I am sure the Democrats will make themselves look bad, and the GOP will win again and again and again. They can get away with anything.

For years now it has really gotten under my skin how right-wing hacks are so quick to assert that "liberals hate America." But I am starting to wonder...is that becoming true? I'm just sick of fighting and fighting and not getting anywhere. I'm sick of the rest of the world hating us. I'm sick of the hypocrisy and the lies and the sheer ignorance of most of the population. I'm sick of a government full of oil barons raiding the world's second largest oil reserves and pretending it's all so Iraqis get the right to vote.

And the funny thing is? I'm not even a liberal. I side with the Left on economic issues, but I'm definitely a social conservative. I've come to the realization that you can't legislate morality...I still think abortion is murder, though.

That said, I'll never, ever, EVER vote for anyone with an R next to his or her name. McCain is a good guy, but I would still never vote for his party.

They've been getting away with this kind of rhetoric for so long its hard for me to be disgusted anymore with the right wingers or the media.

I feel like it's worse now than it's ever been.

And I feel like it's going to lead to violence. (If I'm right, do I win the million dollar challenge?)

I am PISSED about what Rove said...and I didn't even lose anyone to 9/11. (An old friend of mine lost his father, but that's as close as it came to me.) Can you imagine what it would be like to have lost a spouse, sibling or child to those attacks, and then hear about Karl Rove blathering on to applause from his neo-con supporters? I'm telling you, at some point someone who is not as rational as we are is going to take "shock and awe" action against the GOP. And the aftermath of that will not be pretty.

where is the outrage from the so called liberal media? after Rove just called them (along with all liberals) enemies of America, you would think they'd have something to say about that. if they can get upset about Dean saying that "some Republicans haven't worked an honest day in their lives" then they could give Rove's attacks some attention.

You're (obviously) preaching to the choir. I admit that we're not quite as bad as Nazi Germany, in that I don't think anyone is going to come kill me for what I have posted here. But, when the government pays people to write good things about its policies, the government has no problem lying its way into a war, and anyone who dares question the government is quickly labelled a traitor...you sure can mention today's USA and Nazi Germany in the same sentence. Oh yes, you can.

Outrage is exactly what Rove is looking for. This is a calculated attempt to move the news and talk shows away from dropping approval ratings, car bombings and a stagnant agenda and into an area where Republicans are much more comfortable, the mud.

Keith Olbermann would agree with you:

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/6210240/

He compares it to the Twilight Zone episode, "The Monsters Are Due On Maple Street."

... someone, starts screwing with the lights and the electricity on an ordinary suburban street. Within minutes, the residents have concluded that aliens from outer space have invaded. As alliances and rivalries dissolve and re-form with incredible swiftness, these neighbors accuse each other of collusion with the invaders. One of them finally starts shooting. The director pulls back to a nearby hill, where sit two real aliens, one of whom sagely reminds the other that there's no need to actually attack any of these stupid humans — you can just scare them a little bit and then wait for them to tear themselves apart.

Our lights have been screwed with.

It's not that wrong to offer possible peaceful solutions, even in ignorance. In fact, it's better and less damaging than going to war in ignorance.

In the final analysis -- Bush has not gotten Osama bin Laden and the war in Iraq drags on. It's not about who is more macho than the other guy -- it's about who is the most effective. Has the Bush administration really been that effective in fighting its wars? Has it gotten us what we really want?

Would psychoanalysis have been more effective in knowing our enemy? Is Rove so sure it wouldn't have been better? Would more of the world have pitched in and helped us nab bin Laden if we'd taken a more lawful approach? Do potential terrorists really give a **** about what Durbin said -- especially when the insurgents are worse in their treatment of prisoners? What do they have to be angry about?

Well, little pudgy Karl Rove gets to play like a macho. macho man (did Andrew Sullivan say that first?) and talk all tough and provocative. In doing so he is also taking a position against the voices of reason and peace. Apparently a minority of Democrats, but according to Rove -- no Republicans are for Peace and Reason.

I am so happy to hear from other reasonable people tonight.

I found a CD-R full of pornography tonight. I am going to check it out now, and then go to bed.
