Kansas Classroom...

I thought it was funny until you get to the end. Taking 10 seconds to say "God may have created Earth" is hardly hijacking science class, especially chemistry which is what is shown on the chalkboard.

Well, if someone starts polluting gramma or speeling, isn't that hijacking the language class?

Considering it has no place being in a science class I would have to disagree as to its non-hijacking-ness.

Again, briefly acknowledging an alternate belief or not making evolution a mandatory part of the curriculum is not changing science and replacing it with magic. Its on such a small scale it would be, using your analogy, one grammar error on a paper being overlooked.

Okay then, lets have Kansas not just teach creationism, but make it a whole seperate class and make it a full semmester and mandatory that every student takes it. Now everyone's happy.

As you can see your argument is flawed. I dont know about you but i would rather my kids listen to 5 minutes of ******** than 5 months

No it won't. I may be pesimistic, but i believe that as soon as the foot is in the door, the door won't be closed for many a year. First one little finger, then the whole hand, then the arm, and then the body.

Rather, use a month on a bunch of creation myths, and show why they aren't usable within the context of science. That i could support.

You cant get a month out of it. 1 day at most. Contrary to what you hear on the Daily Show, most christians dont believe man lived with dinosaurs, and few have even heard that the bible says the world is 6000 years old. You are grossly misinformed.

Throughout all of high school, going through AP Bio (so I have about 2.5 years), evolution hasnt been brought up once. by completely removing it from the curriculum, there is no way it will turn into a slippery slope.

Each class a different theory. Like, aztec, christian, buddhist, etc. :D

How do you make it through 2.5 years of biology without covering genetics? Who runs an AP Biology course without covering genetics (a major component of the AP Biology test)?

I willl admit it is possible, but America is a nation of Christians. The country stops on Christmas and Easter. Not to mention most Americans could not tell you the differences between the Mayans and the Aztecs. I really cant see much protesting being done for Mayan equality in schools :)

Its not possible to talk about topoisomerase without introducing evolution? Evolution would come up, eg These organisms are likely descendants of [whatever], but as for covering the theories of evolution, I havent come close to anything like that since 6th grade.

So you are saying that to make little minded (and that is being generous) people feel good, teachers should lie to their students. Not a great or noble idea.

That explains a lot.
If youre still learning evolution in high school you are quite a few years behind son.

Thats exactly what I am saying. You, nor anyone else in this thread, gives any empathy to these people. When you hear creationism being taught in school, how do you feel? Obviously, pissed off enough to argue about it over the internet. And thats just for one state. Imagine if 49 other states in the country taught it. I think giving them 5 minutes of class isnt generous enough.

I'm well out of grad school and I'm still learning evolution. I would recommend the same practice to anyone.

Sort of funny how you have a decade on him and he still refers to you as "son" in an attempt to establish dominance. He's only been here a couple of days and I've already decided to ignore him.

Excellent idea.

but make it a whole seperate class
Only if it is taught as modern mythology, or as a sociology/civilization course; otherwise it is in violation of the establishment clause.

and make it a full semmester and mandatory that every student takes it.
So long as it fits my previous criteria, sure, why not?

Now everyone's happy.

No, you attempted counter-argument is flawed because it is a false dichotomy. It is not a matter of 5-minutes in the science class, or a whole semester as its own class. My comment was focused directly at the idea of creationism in a science class. No more, no less. To attempt to take it beyond such and then argue against it is a strawman.

In that case, you contradicted yourself. Forcing one religion to learn something is against the establishment cause. You should stick with short, ambiguous postings as not to do this.

Zygote, please stop following me around.
