John Edward in person

I met John Edwards in person, at a campaign rally when he was running for president. He seemed very personable and sincere, and I saw no evidence that he had fathered an illegitimate child.

But a person of low integrity is a person of low integrity. That's like some kind of law we need to adhere to. You don't marry and then kick your wife to the side. It's bad form.

I think VanillaCone was parodying the OP's defence of the other JE, i.e. assuming (wrongly in both cases) that someone is personable and sincere and doesn't commit morally repugnant acts because that's the impression he gives when you meet him in person.

Well, in the end if your name is John Edwards (or something similar) even a poorly articulated attack is going to stick.

That's why I call myself Senex. No confusion with the riffraff.

and then set the success criteria to be significantly better than that chance result. 1 in 1000 is usual for the preliminary test, i.e. the claimant must produce results that have only a one in a thousand chance or better of being obtained by luck alone.

I'm not trying to be truculent by asking, but can you provide a citation for the 1 in 1000 figure?

It's not an official part of the rules, if that's what you're asking, as each test protocol is designed for, and agreed with, each individual applicant. It just seems to be what JREF consider reasonable, judging by the test protocols they actually agree to.

There's a thread about it here: http://www.internationalskeptics.com/forums/showthread.php?t=113290
