Steverino, I have to agree with Cleon. I think you're over-reaching, and that unnecessarily here. It's easy enough to disagree with Carter without trying to impute this kind of thing to him; and when the imputations go very wrong, then it buggers up your criticism of what Carter is saying.
Best simply to disagree with the man rather than trying overkill which backfires.
I also understand your feelings on the matter; yet if I may say so, your feelings are blinding you to the fact that the opposition (Carter in this case) can be quite well-meaning to all and be sincere about that, IOW not be evil or prompted by malice.
