Hi!

I've just come to understand that one of our new tv-channels here in Sweden is focusing on shows from the ummm... paranormal genre. None are skeptical in their approach and its rather intresting to see them being aired without any discussions whatsoever. Now, one show in particular has caught my eye. Its hosted by a guy called James van Praagh and he claims to being able to talk to dead relatives of the audience. He does a rather poor job, but I was wondering if he has ever been tested by any skeptic, or appeared in any skeptic context?

Cheers,
S

Check that out. Van Praagh is perhaps the worst 'psychic' out there. Just tried to access his site, but it appears to be down at the moment. There is a link to chat logs on it, they are transcripts of readings he gives in his chat room. They are bloody awful. God knows why he keeps them there.

Which channel?

Heres an example from his chat logs, found here : http://www.vanpraagh.com/chatlog.cfm

Bedelia) I'd like to contact my son Peter who passed 5 1/2 years ago.

(JVP) Bedelia.....were there any drugs involved with this?

(Bedelia) no

(JVP) Was he in the hospital?

(Bedelia) no

(JVP) How did he pass?

(Bedelia) he died of AIDS.

(JVP) Well...then I have to disagree with you. Because the first feeling I got was drugs or medications. Drugs are not always "street drugs" understand?

(Bedelia) no

(JVP) I felt as I tuned into to this man, that he was on some medications at the end.

(Bedelia) He took himself off meds a long time before he passed.

(JVP) I feel as though there was pain medication for him. You did not live with him did you?

(Bedelia) Some maybe... yes he lived with me.

(JVP) There was a dog which came to get him as well as a Robert person.

(Bedelia) I know the dog... but don't know Robert.

(JVP) Keep it. Did he ever want pain medication?

(Bedelia) He did sometimes take pain meds.

(JVP) I know.

(Bedelia) LOL!!

(JVP) He no longer has headaches.

(Bedelia) that's great!

(JVP) I also need to say no skin problem. You need to feel happy he says. Please... for him, he is fine. He is with a lot of friends.

(Bedelia) I try to!

(JVP) Also a lot of relatives from his father's side of the family.

(Bedelia) I'm glad of that, yes.

(JVP) And there is a M name...I can't pronounce it... sorry. Is your Mom over there?

(Bedelia) M??? Yes she is.

(JVP) She is talking to me about a comb and brush set. I think she might have a memory of combing or brushing your hair... funny.

(Bedelia) LOL!

(JVP) Please be happy for him...he loves you. They all send love to you, and you must have a blanket. XXXXXXXXXXXXOOOOOOOO from them.

Wasn't that the same channel that aired Loose Change on 9/11 last year?

Or maybe that was "TV4 Fakta" (which would be ironic considering the almost complete lack of facts in that particular "documentary").

I've seen him and his show a couple of times, creepy person to say the least. He really gives me shivers down the backspine, and I'd prefer any haunted house then spending a night in the same house as he's in... :)

No headaches OR skin problems? Heaven rocks!!

The Biography Channel did a show on him. I wonder if the Swedish Channel is just rerunning the same program?

I think it might be "Beyond with James van Praagh:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0300733/

Excerpt from the viewers comments:

Despite the fact that there will always be some less enlightened people, who will always feel automatically entitled to make up unfounded assertions that he is a fraud, without proof, investigation, experience of, having been read by him, or any other psychic or knowledge of psychic phenomenon or how it works, James seems to carry on his wonderful work as a healer. James Van Praague was the only person who predicted the events of 9/11 a whole year prior to 9/11 and there is televised footage of him doing so.

Anyone knows the basis of that last sentence?
