It IS possible to be a freeman on the land

I've been reading through all the threads here on the FMOTL concept and I've been thinking about it a bit. I've come to the conclusion that it IS indeed possible to live as a freeman on the land (more or less). Different proponents of FMOTL have different ideas on exactly what it means so I'm going to summarise the core issue and use that as a basic definition. I'm ignoring the whole birth bond thing, as well as the weird Latin speak aspects of FMOTL as they seem ancillary to he main issue, namely:

(1) No one may be governed except by their express consent.
(2) This consent must be given in the form of some kind of contract.
(3) Because of (2), if I do not sign a contract with the government I do not have to pay taxes.

And (3) is the key to being a FMOTL, not paying taxes if you do not consent to it.

And I've found a way for a FMOTLer do completely withdraw their consent, and not to have to pay a cent of taxes ever again:

STOP EARNING ANY INCOME!

Easy, see by not earning any income there is no way for the government to apply an income tax to you. Furthermore, if you do not earn any money, you cannot buy anything and thus you can't even pay sales tax. A real tax free existence!

It gets better though, you can possibly apply for welfare, getting free food/support from OTHER people's tax money. You can stay under the bridges built by OTHER people's tax money. You can hitch hike on the roads built by OTHER people's tax money. You can even use the free public libraries (built by OTHER people's tax money) to get on the Internet (built by OTHER people's tax money) to write your FMOTL screeds!

How awesome is that!

;)

Theres no way I would claim my $70 million, think of all the money the government would make when they tax me on it.
Im not here to line their pockets.

So when do they get the $70 million?

Dunno :p

My point which I'm trying to make (badly it appears), is that the philosophy behind FMOTL (one cannot be governed without consent), is flawed both pragmatically and morally.

Pragmatically: people are governed all the time without their consent.
Morally: you cannot engage in any of the benefits of society (including earning money) without using up other people's resources. Thus to engage in any of the benefits you need to pay your share, generally in the form of taxes.

In fact even removing yourself from society as much as possible (i.e. becoming a vagrant as in my example) still allows you to benefit from society as a whole.

wrong, you would pay indirect taxes on the things you buy with your "begged" money ;)

True... though I know in some countries there is no tax on basic goods like Bread and Milk.

Well a true FMOTL wouldn't be dealing in that fake fiat-currency anyway!

:p

The fact that you reside in a country you by default consent to the government of that country.
If you dont like the country you can leave it and chose to live in a country whos government you do consent to.
So I would say people are not governed without their consent

Exactly, why dont you sign up to David Ickes and explain that to the freemen over there?

Heh, I would rather not get involved with that forum if I could help it. I was hoping that our resident FMOTL might have some comments on my suggestion.

to be a freeman, it's all in the heart, you have to feel it, it's your truth, no one can tell you, do your own research blah blah blah blah blah god blah blah blah

don't be chicken, they love it the freemen do. They like nothing better than being laughed at otherwise how else can you explain the rubbish they write.

You'd need to consent to sales tax for your daily bottle of Thunderbird.

In California, (most) food and anything that will grow into food is not taxed. So if you live in CA, don't work, don't drive, don't smoke, don't drink, don't own a house and never eat at a restaurant you too, can be a Freeman. At least SoCal has fairly decent weather for your homelessness.

As mentioned above to be a true freeman you have to leave the country, state officially that you are no longer a citizen and wallah! You are FREE however now what do you do? If you have the resources you can bum around the ocean or go to another country - and be 'unfree" there...or wait for the mother ship....
