Interviewing Ethics

My only word of warning (based on my experience with interviewing people who then turn down the job) is that if you do get offered a position, and refuse it, it could affect your chances of getting employment with that company in the future. It's only a small consideration, but if you are applying to companies for practice, but you would genuinely want to work for them if this other offer hadn't occured, it might not be a good idea to give them the impression you are a 'timewaster' (which is invariably the label interviewers give to candidates who do this very thing). It could come back and bite you in the future.

Just a thought.

Once you have accepted the job, it is totally inappropriate.
1) You are wasting the interviewers' time and money. They are acting in good faith that you might accept a job offer.
2) You are denying the opportunity to another student who would be interested.

Do what you until you accept. Once you accept, stop interviewing.

BTW, I am in the similar situation right now. I have accepted a mediocre job but there were two weeks between the acceptance and the start date. I have turned down phone interviews for jobs that seem better. I interviewed until the last second looking for a better job. I planned to accept the offer on a Friday but was unable to contact the company. Then I got a call on Friday from another company and interviewed with them on Monday. I made sure I did not allow the first company to contact me until the 2nd one rejected me. But once I accepted, I was done talking with companies.

Thanks for all the replies!

As a bit of an update, I still very much intend to take the intern position this summer and I will most likely inform the company of my acceptance well in advance of the March 9th deadline. I will not seek or accept interviews after the date of my acceptance, regardless of whether or not I actually sign a contract obligating me to work as an intern at the company.

Thanks again. :)
