If there really is a God, he's an abortionist

I've heard varying opinions on the levels of fertilized ova that don't make it beyond 30 days. Some estimates are as high as 80%. An article I read in Christianity Today in the 1980s put the level at 65%. Christianity Today is the leading evangelical Christian magazine in the United States, and the author of the article, whose name I forget, was a doctor involved in Christian family planning.

According to the article, about 50% of the fertilized ova were grossly deformed and simply died of excessive genetic defects. Other fertilized ova failed to implant into the uterine wall and were simply swept away in the menstrual flow. Still others implanted, but their cells failed to differentiate, meaning, among other things, that they never developed either a placenta or an umbilical cord. Thus, this collection of undifferentiated cells starved to death and was swept away in the next menstrual flow.

I've pointed these and like statistics out to those evangelical Christian and Roman Catholics who assert that ensoulment takes place at conception. This doctrine is used to label most birth control pills as a from of abortion since many of them work by preventing implantation of the fertilized ovum - a human being with a soul, according to the doctrine of ensoulment at conception. Not surprisingly, my pointing these statistics out to them has two results: First, they attack me, saying that I'm asserting that God approves of abortion (pretty much what the OP of this thread says). Second, they continue to assert that ensoulment takes place at conception. This is, after all, a useful doctrine for those attempting to control the sex lives of others.

When times were flush and food plentiful, the theory goes, women could pour more resources into their developing sons, boosting the chances that they would go on to become alpha males. In many mammals, including red deer, alpha males are more likely to find mates and have babies. If conditions turned sour during a pregnancy, on the other hand, it might be best for a woman to miscarry a male baby and try again next year when life is less stressful.

See it's ok when nature does that, but when our intelligent brains decide procreation is in no one's best interest, no just forget the pre-frontal cortex altogether. Except, of course, when you want to abuse it's circuitry with voodoo ceremonies and ideas in order to reach an altered state of consciousness.

Goddamn, that's some disturbing content right there. I'm worried I'm going to have some creepy dreams now. Whoever wrote that stuff down was a real creeper, that's for sure.

Clearly that would be god's fault, not the person in question.

Unless..... you *could* go with the reasoning that anyone who sponaneously aborts or has a miscarriage clearly offended god somehow and/or didn't pray the devil away hard enough, so its *still* their fault and indeed they deserve to burn in hell.

Of course even suggesting that to me is abhorrent and amoral, but that would make it fit with the bible really well.
