ID Poll

Hurry, click the link...34% of the votes have been for yes. I think you can vote multiple times, but I'm not sure. I think they are threatening to take the poll down...just an aussie rumour maybe though.

Sorry, I thought you meant a JREF forum poll.

I went, I viewed, I voted. (I bet you know which way.:D )

I only vote once in any poll, whether they allow multiples or not: it must be my silly outmoded, discredited and superseded "honor and honesty" upbringing. Damn my parents and their reactionary moral code.:D

Australian Survey

I voted no, but upon further examination it may not have been my place to do so. My hasty impression was that the survey is being conducted by the American Broadcasting Company. Actually, it's being run by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, and I suspect they are seeking the opinion of Australians. ;)

I have specific aussie permission to vote, or it wouldn't have been brought to my attention. So there :p :)

In all teachings of ID you will find lies about how evolution actually works. Those lies are then used to show evolution is a silly notion that you shouldn't worry your silly little head with.

Instead, you get this magic entity that waved a magic wand and caused all diversity in life instead. Simple, easy, religious.

Here is the IDer email on the same poll.

Subject: Salt Shakers E-News - we need to do more to support ID

The Intelligent Design 'battle' is hotting up because?it threatens EVOLUTION.?
The anti-creation?brigade, the humanists and sadly even some Christians, are concerned? that their persistent refusal to accept 'a designer'?is being increasingly challenged - There problem is that they cannot prove their long held 'beliefs'. ?If Intelligent Design had no credibility they would not be fighting so hard.?
?
For Christians this battle is about TRUTH - we know there is a designer, we know it was/is GOD. For a world sold?out to "chance and random selection" (evolution), Intelligent Design is a threat simply because it acknowledges what science has increasingly shown over recent years -?DESIGN.
?
It is up to Christians to use this opportunity to take the debate one step further. BUT let us not jump the gun - it?may be advantageous to let the 'intelligent' message sink in for a while and for people to ask the question themselves about who the 'designer' might be before we jump in to ram it down their throats.
??
The FACT is, there?IS more evidence of 'intelligence and design' (GOD) in the world than there is for the theory?of evolution.
Please remember that evolution IS only a theory - It is NOT science as is being claimed - it cannot be proved?by any 'scientific' experiment and it has many huge 'gaps' that NO scientist can fill. Even a 'big bang' needs a 'big banger' - a force to create it from nothing!!
Science has NO answer for this because it is by the Word of God that the world was formed. Nobody will ever 'prove' that.
?
If you have not voted yet please go to www.abc.net.au/catalyst/poll/vote/?and vote for truth - vote YES.
?
We need to write letters to the newspapers - Attached is the article about ID that featured in our October Journal
Go to http://www.saltshakers.org.au/html/P/16/B/114/?for newspaper email addresses ?
Point out that...
Evolution is not science - or, ask for the scientific evidence to be supplied.
Use the term evolutionary THEORY - state it is not a provable fact - ask why people who support one unprovable fact are so quick to reject another.?
State that intelligent design may not be provable but design is clearly 'evident' in the genetic code - that is more than can be said for evolution - especially as not one transitional fossil has yet been.
Intelligent Design is being supported by more and more scientists.
Ask why?our children should not be given ALL the options or theories rather than just one - what about freedom of choice.?Education should not be biased against opposing ideas.
See attached article for more ideas.

But because there is no supporting evidence for ID it doesn't count as a scientific theory any more than astrology or the geocentric model does, as Michael Behe, one of ID's main proponents, admitted this week. Under oath.

And there is plenty of evidence for the theory of evolution by natural selection.

It's sily NOT to. Here is why:

1. We can't say for certain there is no God, to which any broad definition couldn't apply.

2. We cannot rule out that ID and evolution aren't intertwined. One does NOT have to be independent of the other, the way true evolutionists make it out to be.

1. Irrelevant

2. Yes we can. Evolution is science, ID is wackazoolian nonsense. Evolution explains stuff that we can see and measure, ID explains nothing.

Silly indeed.

Well, I'm an Australian, but I didn't get to vote. The poll is closed. I also missed it on the "Catalyst" program the other night. It seems 2/3 were against teaching ID in science classes. Brendan Nelson is painted in a much dimmer light than in Randi's glowing commentary a few weeks ago.

1. We don't know without evidence what that God is, so there is nothing to teach.

2. Saying God did it is an appeal to ignorance, though we cannot rule out that the IPU created the universe, and then guided the evolution of life, we have no evidence this is the case. It's also unscientific to take such a lazy option (It's like saying X happens by magic. Then we would never know how X truly works.)

But what was the causing force that made things decide to 'select'?

It is from comments like you and what scientists make that show me that people just don't waht to think deeply enough, really. They get to a certain point in their argument and then quit.

1aa. I wil let this one go as hashing over such an original vague statement I made might just get confusing for the listeners.

2aa. Ha. Where did science come from? Who told gravity it could exist? Who told magnetism to occur? Who told heat to go up? Who told hydrogen to compress and create a vast array of other elements? Who told lime to harden into cement? Who told iron to work with coke and make steel? Who told about two creatures forming one child? Who told a planet to whirl? Who told the moon to be in the exact spot so that a perfect solar eclipse would reveal just the corona and whose tide actions created cleansing and other things? for the oceans? Who told the water to form a rain cycle? Who told a tomato seed to also make an edible flesh while it was at it? Who told a peacock to get it's feathers? What made a bird toi even decide to have wings? (Obviously birds were not created within the medium of air. Something caused the creature to decide that it should develop something to enable it to get into the air.) Who told songbirds to sing? Who.............................................................................................................................................................?????????

You tell me EXACTLY where YOU came from, and then we will talk and discuss whether or not this is silly.

The above questions belong to religion.
They are not questions science can answer, and should not be topics for discussion in a science class.
So you have made the same mistake as the ID crowd.

(Actually many of your questions could be phrased in terms of science, but I'm sure you don't mean them that way)

I didn't vote on the poll. One thing's for sure: ID is not going away any time soon.

Still, I could wish...
