I shot a ufo

Did you check for kelp circles caused by the clustering effect of the vessel's exhaust ions on the sea water ? (it's a little known fact but the Penta Water actually "cluster" their water using an engine recovered in Florida from the UFO which shot down flight 451 - the whole Bermuda Triangle thing is just a cover). Fish swimming backwards is also an indication (apparently the EMF emissions really screw up their motor receptors - as well as causing Leukemia (unless of course they are wearing a magic talisman)).

I can say for sure there was no crop circle under the UFO, if for nothing else because this picture was taken on the beach, looking out over the Baltic Sea.

Over the sea? Clearly it was checking out Atlantis.

It looks like a cicada to me. Maybe I've just seen too many of them lately (cicadas, not ufos).
Do you get cicadas in Europe? I didn't know what they were (I thought they were some sort of shrub or tree!) until I saw some pictures in another thread.

Looks like a cleg to me!

Daft Brits..;). You're in Europe too, luv, and don't ya forget it, hehehe.

Yah, we've got cicadas here, but they don't fly much this far north. (and they don't make the kind of noise that the Mediterrainean species do).

Yes, that's what I MEANT! I don't know what they are here, and I'm lumping Denmark and Britain in together. As "Europe". (Look, I just sent off my vote in the Euro-elections, I know where we are.) I wonder if we call "cicadas" something different?

Rolfe.

I don't see it...unless you mean the super blurry thing that looks like some sort of insect or bird.

In that case it doesn't look like a UFO.
There are no windows or death rays or rectal probes or anything.

Seriously, (SERIOUSLY? Are you kidding??).. cicadas are a whole group comprising hundreds of insects. We have a small insect here WE call a cicada, but... Actually, it is not a true insect but belongs to a different group, "tæger" in Danish. Guess I'll have to go and look it up...

Mmm, my dictionary says Hemiptera, does that ring a bell?

"Kelp Circles".

Wish I thought of that.

You probably just started a new woo woo industry now that the better photos of Mars put that face-guy out of work.

Now, the UFO: When I took the picture, I was lying on my back on a blanket in the sand, enjoying the sun :p, and there was a good deal of small flies about. There usually is on the beaches around here, they don't bother much about people, as they seem to find something interesting in the patches of seaweed lying on the beach, but of course, they buzz around a good deal. Since it was a sunny day (as you can see by the deep blue sky), the light intensity was high, so the aperture of the automatic camara was no doubt small, giving a very good depth sharpness, so a nearby fly would not me more out of focus than you see.

So here, UFO must stand for Ubiquitous Flies Overhead :D.

Hans :p

Nope. And I've never heard the word "cicada" spoken to my knowledge. I seriously thought it was some sort of tree or shrub, native to warm climates.

They're not clegs either, because I've never seen a cleg in England, only in Scotland, and besides they have an extremely distinctive whine. (Signal to take cover. If one bites you, you'll know about it, if one bites your horse, you're either in the ditch or the next county.)

"Why won't Hal and Blue Monk address the evidence?"

Perhaps we need to add that to all of our signatures.

Then I will create a sockpuppet--MedicoX to ask the same thing.

Repeat for one year. . . .

Trees? TREES?? Have you ever been to Malta? Mighty noisy trees, them ;).

That's not a UFO!

Swamp gas from a weather balloon was trapped in a thermal pocket and reflected the light from Venus.

Obviously!

Mmmm, but while we're at contrails, have a look at the one going across the middle of the picture (and the one I actually wanted to make a pic of): Notice that it is double, a lower twin twirl of clear white tracks and an upper, more hazy cloud stripe. They start out as one, normal-looking contrail, then, a few minutes after the plane has passed (I have full photo doc of this), split up like this. Any clever explanations of this (yes, I have one myself)?
