• Quick note - the problem with Youtube videos not embedding on the forum appears to have been fixed, thanks to ZiprHead. If you do still see problems let me know.

How'd they make that flag...

I cannot believe it, Grey Wanderer, I had exactly this in mind as I read this thread.

INRM & No Answers apparently have a hobby that involves wasting other peoples( as well as their own) time..

Time that might be better spent with some very elemenatary lay oriented physics.. The kind of stuff my son is getting exposed to in the 3rd grade.

Of course, I'm not recomending this for the people who are taking the time to respond.. ( the education part ... ) As usual you are going way beyond the call of duty to try to help someone, in case they are really looking for answers and not just trolling.

Remove all air from the room, so it is in a vaccuum. .....

I am unable to do this part of the precedure successfully.

I tried using an industrial shop vacuum to remove the air but I quickly suspected that the air being expelled was being replaced.

I put duct tape all over the place to cover the gaps. At one time I came very close I think, as I passed out, fell on the shop vac, and fortunately happened to hit the off switch (close call).

I will have to save up for the SCUBA gear.

What! You actually need to breathe? We here in Roswell have been living in a vacuum so long, I guess we forgot about the rest of the world:D
besides, you forgot the plastic, so I suspect your room would leak...

I remain unconvinced that we ever went to the moon. It could easily have been faked, and the US had enormous motives for faking it. Probably it will be achieved someday though.

PS there's no wind on the moon.
Although plenty of hot air here on Earth, apparently.

You remain unconvinced, even though earth-bound astronomers routinely bounce lasers off the cubical ranging reflectors the Apollo astrounauts left up there? Gee, what WOULD it take to convince you?
Not 800 lbs of moonrock, apparently.

I suppose the launch and the splashdown were faked as well? Go rent a sci-fi movie made in the same era as the moon landing. If Hollywood couldn't make a convincing space movie at the time, what chance did the government have of making something that didn't look *completely* faked?

Well, jump on, one and all. I simply stated my opinion. Is anyone willing to agree that it might have been faked?

Anyone skeptical of my opinion should be willing to apply the same skepticism to the notion that man went to the moon.

...oh, screw it. I can't possibly keep this one going. I'm no Bart Sibrel, and I do believe we went to the moon. Just rattling cages, folks.

Some replies were great examples of why the "moon-landing-was-a-hoax"ers are sort of unfathomable. Some were great examples of sarcasm and flaming.

Sorry to upset the cart.

I thought the evidence that I provided from the Bad Astronomer web page was pretty convincing. What do you say?

You did read what I wrote about rattling cages, right?

Yah, I've read that page and followed the links before. And Phil is right: the Fox show tried to present an air of even-handedness, a display of both sides of the "debate". But it was almost entirely junk, from junksters, Fox-ed up.

It's something I personally don't get: these HB's are willing to put time into research, and still come away with ridiculous conclusions. They see one set of facts yet completely ignore others; the other facts being the ones that don't support their preconceived notions. And I think that's the bottom line, why it happens.
If one studies the history of the moon landing objectively, it would be natural to have one's jaw drop. What it took to achieve it and the risks involved were enormous. Examine the same history with the idea that it never took place firmly rooted in your mind, and you're off on a hoax conspiracy that boggles the imagination.

When has the government ever been able to fully keep such a secret anyways?

Nope.. Not with the technology that was available at the time..

I did ( for the few minutes it took me to skim through some of the debunking stuff, linked to in this thread ), and it passed.. ( Skeptisism of the notion that men went to the moon..)

If you want to watch footage of the astronauts mucking around with flags, go to www.apolloarchive.com, and select Apollo Multimedia. Scroll down to Apollo 14 and Apollo 17 to watch some good video of flag behaviour in a low gravity vacuum (along with a few other low gravity vacuum effects).

You´ve got it all wrong.. They obviously faked it with the technology gained from aliens :)

On a serious note I think that the whole manned flight idea was stupid and the guy doing risk analysis for NASA should have been fired on the spot. It was a huge risk that fortunately paid off.

On a purely technical or scientific basis, there wasn't much point sending men to the moon at that time. From a human standpoint, though, it was way cool.

The flag had a piece of wire running across the top...they could shape it anyway they wanted..

Just a thought...

Yes, but it was not done for the human standpoint or the scientific standpoint. It was purely political…had to beat the commies!

I was just sent an email from JREF saying.....

"no one in particular has just replied to a thread you have subscribed to"

:D

Also a worthwhile goal.
