How often do you change passwords?

I just got a notice from the Major League Baseball site to force me to change my password.
To keep your account secure, we require you to reset your password.
Please update your MLB Account Password
They require it! Thing is, I thought I canceled my account weeks ago. I only signed up for the app (had to) to get a ticket for the game where my 100-year-old auntie was throwing out the first pitch. This was the first baseball game I'd been to in over 30 years. And it rained, so it was canceled. (She still got to do it just before it rained.)
I didn't want to have to sign up in the first place for exactly this reason -- them having my email and constantly sending me messages, and no easy way to opt out or even Unsubscribe.

Really? That sounds like a phishing attempt to me. I haven't updated my password for mlb in over 6 years and it's about the most simplistic password out there. I also share it with a handful of people because we all use my mlb.tv. I'd be pretty skeptical of that one.

That being said every email you get from mlb should have an "unsubscribe" at the bottom of it in the small print. At least mine always did. I don't get any email from them at all, for anything. I opted out awhile ago.

That sucks though, spam mail is the ◊◊◊◊◊◊◊ worst.

Could you recommend a password manager like Dashlane to her? Then in theory she only needs to remember one password.
Trouble is, how do I know they are competent? And all the layers of IT going down are competent? It's too easy to hire idiots.
I trust Password Safe as I know Bruce Shneier's rep and it's trusted by people I trust. The vault lives on my phone and PCs.

It looks legit. I made the password change on the site - not through the link (I had to do that in order to finally delete the account), and got the verification emails from the same account. There was no Unsubscribe link on the bottom (which I might have used, but decided to delete the entire account as long as I was there.)

Makes sense, especially if they spam you. Just out of curiosity, who do you use for an email provider?

ALL of them. Really, I had a couple hotmail accounts, which I'm switching over to gmail. A couple on xFinitity/Comcast. And a couple on GoDaddy. All used for different purposes.

Ok, the reason I asked is because I checked the email account I used for my login and realized they do email me all the time lol. It's just an account that I never check or use for anything.
