Reality.

Jyera, it's somewhat premature to be talking about a school for psychics.

Someone first has to demonstrate, in a clear, repeatable test with proper controls against bias or fraud, that psychic phenomena exist.

"Clear" doesn't mean you have to be able to shoot fire from your eyes (or lightning from your arse) or something flashy like that. [Edit to add: Mind you, that'd be really cool to see.]

It is enough to demonstrate that your ability statistically performs better than random chance. Should psy turn out to be real, it is very much to the psychic's advantage to ensure the test has good controls. The better the controls, the smaller the advantage that can successfully be detected at a given level of confidence.

And there's a nice $1,000,000 USD as icing on the cake for the person who succeeds.

You're making me feel so old! I haven't kept up with the X-men in years. Not since they spawned so many spin-offs I started to call it X-ploitation.

Reminds me of the astonished reaction I got from a younger friend when I said I remembered the wedding of the Human Torch and Crystal....

I prefer the term "realism."

And the method of determining if something is true is termed "science."

As a recommendation, pick up the trades of X-Force/X-Statix, New X-men, Ultimate X-men, and Ultimate Spider-man. Since Joe Quesada's taken over at Marvel, things have been amazingly good.
 
But just to clarify to readers of this thread. So far, at no point in this thread did I mention about funding people to develop their paranormal ability. Perhaps you get the idea from the Movies or Comics.

I misunderstood. However, I see no real use in having magnetic man study science. If someone can

-see through blindfolds
-influence random number generators
-bend cutlery with their minds
-remotely view things
-move small objects across a table, or
-cause compasses to spin

what use is that person's studying science? Wouldn't it make more sense to have experienced scientists study that person? What do you expect from providing science training to such an individual?

In history people with unique ability either...
Be an freak entertainer . Or used that ability to give himself unfair advantage. We should encourage them to contribute to scientific knowledge.

I would expect he'll be a spokeman for scientific methods.

His rare ability is an asset to mankind.

Being a scientist he would appreciate the fact that he needs to contribute to scientific knowledge. And be more open to scientific study by others on him.

With scientific knowledge, he'll be the first person to police his own imagination and reject "unscientific" interpretation or explanation about how his ability works.

If his ability is genetically inheritable. Allowing magnetic-boy to meet magnetic girl may prove to be a significant event in history.

These are as far as I think what he should be taught.

Are there things other than science that this person should be taught?
 
Thinking about the "magnetic" man and boy.

It occur to me ...

1. If they are really magnetic, then they should be able to plot a magnetic field diagram with iron fillings.

2. If they are NOT exactly magnetic. That is, they do not generate have magnetic field as science know it.
Then is there a possibility that there is another way to generate a field (non-magnetic) to stick the metal to the body.

3. Why should we accept that there are only one and only one way to attract a piece of metal? Ie. magnetic force.

Before discovery of magnetism there are perhaps 2 ways to "attract" and hold metal.
Ie. use glue to bind the metal to another metal.
or simply use your hands to hold it down.

Yes, that's the spirit. Think about all the things that would happen if the claim were true and then check to see if those conclusions really happen.

Yes, but he can do these things without having a degree in science. Chrisopher Reeve is now a spokesman for research into spinal cord injuries and neurological treatments. It is not necessary to send him to medical school for him to help the medical community by aiding in fundraising or speaking to public groups or appearing before government bodies to have laws changed.

I'm from Singapore and do not read the Malaysian "The Star" regularly. While personally the name "The Star" give me the impression that the papers is the type that sensationalises news.

But I have see not evidence that the particular piece of news is not true. Truely magnetic or not I judge that he did at least pulled car.

But since someone has questioned the trustworthiness of "www.100megsfree4.com", and it has caught the attention of another... I thought it is relevant to ask the following question.

I'm actually not very impressed with the "car pulling stunt".
It is too sensationalising.

Even if he did pulled the car along, the puller just proves he can overcome the friction due to the weight of the car and the full weight of the car.
They probably do not have the hand brake on.

If he had "magnetic" power on his belly, he should be facing the car and pulling by walking away from the car. But I doubt his "magnetic"power is so strong.

If they had mentioned that throughout the pulling, the man did not need to adjust or hold the metal plate with his hand, maybe it would be more impressive.
